ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Established in 1970, Boley Centers, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization serving individuals with mental disabilities, individuals and families who are homeless, Veterans and youth in Pinellas County. Boley Centers, Inc., a nationally recognized and accredited behavioral health care agency, has an opening for a part-time Veteran Support Specialist.


PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinates the preparation and creation of a healthy and holistic menu geared toward, but not limited to heart healthy and diabetic sensitive meals, as approved by the Agency dietician/nutritionist.
  • Facilitates nutrition education and healthy cooking workshops for consumers.
  • Engages consumers in Meal Planning, Preparation and Kitchen Operations to promote daily independent living skills.
  • Provides oversight of the daily meal preparation process including the development and maintenance of a consumer run food preparation team.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with whole food vendors to establish a quality and varied menu as indicated by monthly consumer satisfaction surveys.
  • Performs daily inspections of all kitchen/food preparation areas and equipment to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local food service regulations and standards.
  • Monitors quantity of food being dispensed, maintaining adequate supplies and materials, monitors expenditures to ensure budgets are followed, ensures proper records/receipts are maintained and controlled.
  • Conducts monthly inventory of all food products and monitor the security of food service work site and storage areas. Will act as appropriate to ensure adequate security measures are in place at all times.
  • Performs monthly preventative maintenance inspections of the interior/exterior of the facility to ensure a safe and healthy living environment and reports all maintenance issues via the agency maintenance request system-tracks to satisfactory completion.
  • Assesses, inspects, and ensures the cleanliness of the facility being maintained through a consumer designated team or will confer with the Residential Supervisor or Support Services Manager to determine whether additional services are required to ensure the cleanliness of the facility.
  • May serve as staff coverage at the facility when necessary, as required by licensure standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School or GED. Relevant technical training desirable.

Three or more years relevant experience. Some experience with preparation and serving of large quantity meals preferred, including commercial food preparation, health, and sanitation standards.

Knowledge of applicable health and safety standards; food preparation and serving techniques; menu preparation; special diets; operation of commercial kitchen equipment and materials preferred.

Good skills and demonstrated abilities in communication - verbal and/or written, basic math and language, supervision, planning, organizing, coordination, cooperation, follow through, interpersonal relations, attention-to-detail, following procedures - written and/or verbal, recording information, instructing, teaching, coaching, public relations, working independently, crisis intervention - verbal , problem solving, negotiating, adapting to change, decision making, organizing/scheduling work - own and others, and such others that are usually and customarily considered necessary for the satisfactory completion of essential duties.



PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Must comply with all work-related rules and standards including, but not limited to attendance. Must not present a direct threat to the safety or health of self or others.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Primarily indoor work with some daily exposure to outdoors. May be exposed to a variety of environmental factors including, but not necessarily limited to odors, mist, uncomfortable heat and noise. Potential hazards may include mechanical, electrical, radiant energy, chemical and physical. Overtime may be required at times. Driving company vehicle for food pick up.


Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move or manipulate objects. Physical activities including, but not necessarily limited to climbing approximately 20 steep stairs between kitchen and main floor while carrying food to upstairs dining room, stooping, reaching - above and/or below waist, standing, walking, talking, grasping, seeing, hearing, handling, driving at varying frequency and intensity may be required to satisfactorily accomplish one or more of essential duties.


WORK MATERIALS AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT:

May include but may not necessarily be limited to standard commercial kitchen items, i.e., stove, dishwasher, mixer, slicer, and steam table; telephone; standard office equipment/materials.

May include but may not necessarily be limited to protective gloves/mitts/aprons, weight (lifting) belt. Special or unusual circumstances may require use of emergency safety equipment including, but not necessarily limited to fire extinguisher, first aid equipment/materials, etc.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Florida driver's license required.
