Your Impact:

We're Hiring: Generator/Diesel Technician – Miami, FL (Field-Based Role)

If you are a highly skilled Generator/Diesel Technician in the power generation industry with excellent mechanical and electrical capabilities, Pearce Services wants to hear from you. We're seeking an individual with hands-on experience servicing diesel and/or natural gas generators, as well as automatic transfer switches (ATS), across various power systems. This includes equipment from prominent manufacturers such as Caterpillar (CAT), Cummins, Generac, and Kohler, among others. This position supports field-based work in the greater Miami, FL area, servicing customer sites across the region. It's a great match for independent, self-motivated technicians who enjoy variety, road travel, and working directly with clients in the telecom and commercial sectors. You'll be well-liked by peers and customers because of your work ethic, professionalism, and reliability, and you genuinely enjoy solving problems in the field.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customer sites and perform scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of state-of-the-art diesel and natural gas generators [CAT / Caterpillar; Cummins; Generac; Kohler; etc.]
  • Accurately troubleshoot and diagnose power generation equipment, including problems with Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), and generator controls, AC, and DC.
  • Travel to customer sites within the required response time to perform, diagnose, and repair emergency maintenance on generator equipment.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely and accurate manner, using the company computer system(s) and properly assess & report the urgency of all needed repairs.
  • Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Conducting performance checks and regular maintenance on generators to ensure proper readiness, reading and following blueprints or other design specifications to install or repair.
  • Install fuel and water supply lines, pumps, electrical wiring and controls, and other components, and test for proper operation.
  • Be responsible for responding promptly/timely to Power/Generator alarms; have the ability to be on call 24/7 if necessary and respond promptly to answering assigned phone and email
  • Perform work with the awareness of all potential hazards connected with the installation and maintenance of power supply equipment, switching gear, and other equipment, including but not limited to falls, electric shock, falling objects, and traffic; use safety equipment and utilize safety practices; attend and participate in all designated safety and training meetings

Specific duties may vary or evolve over time in response to business and client needs.

Core Experience:

  • Three or more years of experience with generator maintenance, specifically for units of 1,500 kW and above, with a preference for 3,000 kW or higher.
  • Minimum of two years of intense work-related experience with generator and electrical maintenance-related software, hardware, and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of generator installations, maintenance, and repair of Generators; knowledge of electronic, mechanical, and electrical components; moderate computer skills.
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent FCC/FAA/EPA/OSHA regulations.
  • Must have electrical and mechanical aptitude, relating to diesel and/or natural gas engines, generators, and automatic transfer switches
  • Previous experience working with power generation equipment, such as diesel generators and gaseous generators. [CAT / Caterpillar; Cummins; Generac; Kohler; etc.]
  • Must be available and willing to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and provide proof of insurance eligibility.
  • Must be DOT certified.
  • Basic computational skills, including the use of a laptop as it pertains to receiving correspondence and service tickets, as well as proficiency using Microsoft Office products and Adobe Reader.

Physical/Work Environment:

At Pearce, safety is our top priority. Candidates must be able to comply with OSHA Standards.

  • This position requires lifting over 50 pounds, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and standing for long periods of time
  • Must have the ability to inspect and/or troubleshoot equipment/alarms effectively, both visually and audibly
  • Must be willing and able to drive long distances, workday, evening, or night hours; overtime, emergency callouts, weekends, and holidays as required; must assume 24-hour on-call duty when assigned and be gone from home for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical

Base Pay Range$50—$65 USD
