MSK Precision Products specializes in manufacturing superior high precision parts and assembly for the medical, aerospace and DOD industries. Our certifications include: AS9100D Certified - ISO 13485 Certified - ISO 9001 Certified. We are a fast-paced, quality-driven facility currently seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Quality Inspector to join our team.
Position Summary:
The Inspector is responsible for conducting in-process and final inspections of precision machined components to ensure conformance to specifications. The Inspector supports quality assurance efforts by documenting inspection results, identifying non-conformances, and working closely with production and engineering to uphold quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Inspection and Measurement:
a) Perform visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections of machined parts using precision tools.
b) Utilize a variety of inspection tools and equipment such as calipers, micrometers, CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines), vision systems and other precision measuring instruments.
c) Conduct first article inspections and maintain detailed records of inspection results.
d) Verify part compliance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and control plans.
2. Documentation:
a) Record inspection results clearly and accurately using inspection reports and databases.
b) Tag and document non-conforming parts and communicate findings to appropriate personnel.
c) Collaborate with production staff to troubleshoot quality issues and recommend solutions.
3. Compliance and Standards:
a) Ensure that manufacturing processes are in compliance with industry standards ISO 9001, AS9100, and ISO13485.
b) Conduct internal audits and assist with external audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Non-essential Responsibilities:
1. Performs other duties as directed.
2. Perform other inspection-related duties as assigned by the Quality Manager or lead inspector.
3. Assist in training other inspectors or production personnel on proper use of inspection tools and techniques.
4. Support investigation of non-conformances by providing accurate inspection data and input on potential causes.
5. Participate in the maintenance and organization of the inspection area, tools, and equipment.
6. Help with setup and testing of new inspection equipment, including CMMs and vision systems.
7. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by sharing feedback on inspection challenges and process gaps.
8. Provide backup support for internal audits or document reviews when needed.
Position Qualifications and Competency Statements:
· Precision Measurement - Skilled in using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, CMMs, and vision systems.
· Blueprint Interpretation - Able to read and interpret technical drawings and geometric tolerancing.
· CMM and Vision Systems - Proficient in setup and operation of Zeiss or similar CMMs and optical/vision measurement equipment (e.g., MicroVu, OGP).
· Attention to Detail - Detects inconsistencies and potential defects in complex parts.
· Communication - Clearly communicates findings and collaborates with shop personnel and engineers.
· Documentation - Maintains accurate and organized inspection records and documentation.
Skills and Abilities:
· Education:
o High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in inspection or metrology preferred.
· Experience:
o Minimum of 3 years of experience in a precision manufacturing inspection role.
o Experience with machining processes, CNC equipment, and metalworking.
o Proficient in using quality inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM).
o Experience with GD&T and tight tolerance inspection in aerospace, medical device, or defense industries.
· Skills:
o Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Hands-on experience operating CMMs (e.g., Zeiss) and vision systems (e.g., MicroVu), including basic programming and troubleshooting.
o Able to read and interpret complex technical drawings, including understanding GD&T symbols and tolerance specifications.
o Strong visual and dimensional accuracy; able to identify even minor defects or deviations.
o Accurate and efficient in recording inspection results, completing checklists, and updating quality records.
o Able to prioritize and manage multiple inspections within tight production timelines.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with ERP and MRP software.
· Certifications (preferred but not required):
o ASQ Certified Quality Inspector
o Zeiss Calypso basic course
