POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting the Laboratory Director and the Medical Laboratory Director in the management and supervision of the Laboratory. Provide administrative direction to all sections. Provide technical direction to those areas in which the Manager is licensed. Support the Laboratory Director by assuming the role as a leader in planning, directing and managing the laboratory, designated sections and staff to assure quality service on a 24-hour basis. Responsible for assisting in meeting JCAHO, AHCA, CAP and AABB, CLIA and OIG/CMS standards, complying with corporate policy and procedure, managing the equipment in the department, promoting teamwork with physicians and all healthcare providers, promoting internal and external customer satisfaction and appropriate resource management. Must be available by beeper or other means when not on-site. Assist students in the specific area for development of technical, clinical and problem solving. Performs additional duties as needed or assigned. This is an exempt, salaried position. Hours in excess of 8 per day or 40 per week may be required.
CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and the hospital. Works with supervisor/manager and other members of section or department to promote a harmonious work environment. Ensures that all contacts with patients, the public, physicians and other hospital personnel are carried out in a friendly, courteous, helpful and considerate manner. Answers telephones in a prompt and courteous manner. Displays concern and provides assistance or explains procedures as appropriate to callers or in face-to-face situations. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Works with customers to identify problem areas and recommend solutions.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (including required licenses/certifications, education and job knowledge/experience):
- Current Florida licensure as Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in two or more specialties-Hold a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical Science, or Biological Science from an accredited institution, including at least 24 semester hours of academic science (6 hours in biological sciences and 6 hours in chemical sciences). If the degree is from outside the U.S., an equivalency evaluation may be required to meet staff sign-off requirements. Minimum of 3 years as a clinical lab technologist, with at least 1 year of leadership experience preferred.
- Good verbal and written communication skills required.
- Basic computer skills required.
