JOB SUMMARY:
Head Swim Coach will be responsible for the over-all supervision of the program. Must be able to supervise staff and volunteers, and make sure that everyone follows lesson plans, safety standards and rules of the YMCA. Oversees duties of coaches and serves in programs with more than 150 participants

The Head Swim Coach must possess the competence and confidence to administer a safe program for all participants. They must be responsible and at least 18 years of age and have the ability to cooperate and work with YMCA staff to provide a quality program. Also, they must become certified in Life Guarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid in the first 90 days of employment. Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE. Within 30 days of hire, Child Abuse Prevention in an Aquatics Environment training required. Within 90 days of hire, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Youth Development, Intro to the Ys Cause and Culture, Experience Storytelling, Engaging with Families, and Youth Affirmations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement trainings required. Get SMART preferred. Must have the skills, knowledge and genuine willingness to work with youth.
SPECIAL SKILLS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
This individual must familiarize themselves with YMCA rules and policies. Since this position is dealing directly with program participants and their parents, good verbal communication skills are beneficial. The Head Swim Coach must demonstrate good communication and problem solving skills along with a good understanding of the community with which they are working.
PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
This individual needs to be able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds. If individual must lift and carry more than 30 pounds, they must ask for assistance from another staff member. This individual may be required to stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating physical stamina and agility.
JOB DUTIES:
* 1. Responsible for over all implementation of swim team program
* 2. Coordinate all aspects of swim meets - to include meet sheets, set-up, volunteer solicitation, and over all success of swim meet.
* 3. In collaboration with the Aquatics Director, responsible for recruitment, hiring, and supervision of all paid and volunteer swim team staff.
* 4. Conduct staff evaluations of minimum of once per year.
* 5. Assist in marketing and development of program.
* 6. Arrive before the program begins to set up equipment and conduct a safety inspection.
* 7. Review and lead value discussions each week of the program.
* 8. Track attendance of all swimmers and maintain appropriate records of all swim team-related events.
* 9. Always be enthusiastic and positive when working with swimmers, coaches and parents.
*10. Role model all aspects of SMART pledge.
11. Ensure practice and swim meets begin and end on time.
12. Make certain the YMCA goals of: fun, teamwork, sportsmanship and skill development are met each week.
13. Always wear appropriate attire.
14. Distribute materials and make program announcements as needed.
15. Follow the instructions of your supervisor. Communicate with other staff members.
*16. Supervise all staff, volunteers, and members to make sure they are following all safety standards and personal policy at all times set by the YMCA.

*19. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean appearance of the pool area and storage room of all times.
20. Responsible for all swim team equipment, and to report to your supervisor any damaged equipment promptly.
21. To maintain and distribute first aid supplies as needed by participants and spectators and to follow YMCA policy and guidelines in the event of accident or injury. This includes the filling out of accident and incident reports and the notification of the Program Director.
