Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Adult Day Training (ADT) Senior Program manager, the Activities and Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of activities, community experience outings, and volunteer activities for the participants of the program. This position, in conjunction with internal and external partners, shall be responsible for building an activity and recreation plan that offers a wide variety of opportunities for the participants to engage in and enjoy.


The Activities and Recreation Coordinator should possess excellent planning and organizational skills, ensuring that opportunities for activities and outings are seamlessly planned and executed. Additionally, excellent communications skills will be necessary for planning with internal and external partners.


Working on site at Parc Center for Disabilities’ campus, you’ll find a dedicated team, unified in building an engaged, people-centered work environment. Our goal is to elevate the quantity and quality of activities and recreational opportunities for our participants.

Requirements:

Essential Responsibilities

  • Create a master activity calendar each month. Update as new activities are added.
  • Distribute master activity calendar to all program areas and work with ADT Floor Supervisors to schedule groups to attend each activity.
  • Create a monthly community outing schedule. Share with ADT supervisors to schedule groups for each outing.
  • Notify and arrange for transportation of each outing.
  • Coordinate with case managers on upcoming outings if permission slips, money, etc. are needed for any outings.
  • Develop and implement a full Community Experience based group. Schedule and coordinate a daily community-based plan for this group.
  • Coordinate with Director of Volunteer Engagement and community partners to identify and/or schedule all community activities to include but not limited to: Inspired Choir, Theater program, Meals on Wheels, Special Olympics classes, Master Gardening Group, Civitan, Clay Center, SPCA, Toast Masters, etc.
  • Secure opportunities in the communities for collaborations to develop and build mutual interest partnerships. This includes partner organizations, vendors, supporters and outlets/business owners, as well as Parc team members and Volunteers.
  • Coordinate with Art Teacher, ADT Floor Supervisors, and art volunteers to offer art class schedule to ADT participants.
  • Ensure all participants are scheduled to spend time with the art teacher weekly in conjunction with ADT Floor Supervisors.
  • Coordinate with Art Teacher the planning and execution of art shows, sales, auctions, etc.
  • Coordinate with Marketing for scheduled activities and volunteer activities to promote social media coverage.
  • Ensure that attendance/participation at events, classes, etc. is taken and provided to case managers, community partners, etc. and maintained in the participant record.
  • Take the lead in implementing any additional new or developing activity and recreation opportunities as they arise.
  • Directly responsible for planning, developing, and growing Parc’s Extra-Curricular Day Activities for Individuals in ADT.
  • Promoting teamwork, social skills, enriched community interaction, intramural sports and therapeutic recreational opportunities during the day.
  • Collaborating with other Team Members at Parc to ensure the provision of a meaningful, educational, creative, and interactive environment for persons with developmental disabilities, resulting in goals realized and lives being lived to their fullest potential and enjoyment.
  • Advance and promote Parc’s mission and vision by providing opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to exercise their preferences, choices, and independence.
  • Successfully complete training required by Parc standards and by licensing bodies to fulfill accountabilities of the position as it pertains to directly working with individuals with development disabilities participating in Parc programs.
  • Utilize community resources through the city or local events to infuse ADT individuals at Parc as active participants and citizens of their community.
  • Continually research and familiarize self with recreational and enrichment models world-wide that share with Parc’s similar mission.
  • Remain knowledgeable, as needed to fulfill accountabilities, company policies as well as safety and legal regulations and industry standards and requirements.
  • Work with Development/Philanthropy Department in providing information and speaking points for their efforts in securing funding and supporters and in collaboration with the department for Parc events.
  • Possess ability to project a positive, proper appearance for Parc when working with the community and all stakeholders.
  • Other duties, as assigned by Senior Program Manager, Assistant Vice President of Community Programs, and the Chief Programs Officer.

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Florida Drivers’ License with acceptable driving record.
  • 3 years’ experience creating and executing activities, events, and/or performing arts programs.
  • Be physically, visually, and auditorily aware of the cognitive, social, and physical needs of our participants.
  • Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A heart for people first and foremost.
  • Have a learning attitude and natural curiosity for how things work, with a desire to improve processes and procedures without judgement for how things were done in the past.
  • Knowledge and Experience with planning and executing activities and recreation in a Adult Day Training program.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions and safety precautions.
  • Physical demands such as repetitive motion, standing, bending, kneeling, walking, and lifting for extended periods of time.
  • Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other electronic tools preferred.

Schedule:

  • Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend hours. Your schedule may vary depending on business needs and other factors including evening and weekend events requiring attendance.
  • This is an on-site role.
