Symmetrio is recruiting a Senior Hardware Engineer for our customer, a global conglomerate in the medical device space. This role will focus on microcontroller-based systems, FPGA development, high-speed digital design, and low-power power supply design. You will work closely with firmware, mechanical, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware into complex electromechanical systems.

This is an on site role in melbourne, FL. The salary for this role ranges from $125,000 to $150,000.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design embedded systems centered on ARM Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M7 microcontrollers
  • Implement high-speed interfaces including USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet, SDRAM, and LVDS
  • Integrate peripheral communications using SPI, I²C, and USB Type-C Power Delivery (1.2 spec)
  • Develop and optimize FPGA designs in VHDL for AMD/Xilinx Artix-7 devices
  • Use Vivado design suite for synthesis, simulation, timing closure, and debugging
  • Implement logic for high-speed data acquisition, control, and signal processing
  • Design and validate DC/DC power supplies (<40W) for embedded applications
  • Ensure proper power sequencing, noise control, and thermal management for sensitive electronics
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to integrate and test embedded systems
  • Perform signal integrity analysis and support PCB layout for controlled impedance and high-speed routing
  • Develop and execute hardware verification plans, including test fixture design and automated test scripts
  • Ensure hardware designs meet applicable safety, EMC, and regulatory standards for medical devices
  • Participate in design reviews, FMEAs, and documentation for design history files
  • Use lab instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers) to debug and validate designs
  • Apply EMI/EMC best practices in board-level designs
  • Work with cross-functional teams to take hardware designs from requirements through production release

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in embedded digital hardware design from concept to production.
  • Proficiency with ARM Cortex-M4/M7 microcontroller architecture and development tools.
  • Strong background in FPGA design (VHDL, Vivado, Xilinx Artix-7).
  • Expertise in high-speed digital design (USB 3.0, GigE, SDRAM, LVDS).
  • Experience with low-power DC/DC converter design and integration.
  • Familiarity with USB Type-C Power Delivery protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers).
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, EMI/EMC design practices, and PCB layout best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in medical device or other regulated product development (IEC 60601, ISO 13485).
  • Knowledge of mixed-signal design integrating analog and digital circuitry.
  • Experience with Ethernet PHYs, high-speed SERDES, and LVDS camera/data links.
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware development in C for microcontrollers and FPGA soft processors.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
