Job Description

Director of Construction

Our client is a full-service construction company, general contractor, design-builder, and construction manager with an office location in Delray Beach Florida since 1999. They launched their business with the goal of providing superior quality and craftsmanship to the region's construction industry. Dedicated to being the best is what separates them from others. The best at finding talented employees; the best at working with design teams; the best at understanding the end-user; and the best at delivering projects ahead of schedule without compromising quality.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As the Director of Construction you will serve as the operational heartbeat of the company, bridging the leadership gap between ownership and field execution. This role is accountable for leading all production activity across office and field teams, ensuring that construction standards, timelines, and profitability targets are consistently met — while shaping the company’s internal culture and long-term strategic initiatives for growing.

This is a foundational leadership role, responsible for elevating team performance, strengthening subcontractor and client relationships, and operationalizing owner-driven initiatives that reach beyond construction alone.

Core Responsibilities

Construction Operations Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and manage all project superintendents, office coordinators, and field leaders
  • Ensure projects are executed on schedule, within budget, and to the company's standard of excellence
  • Establish and enforce company-wide project delivery systems and job cost controls
  • Proactively resolve bottlenecks in workflow, coordination, and vendor management
  • Lead Project Kickoff Meetings and other Key Operational Meetings

Organizational and Strategic Execution

  • Serve as the operational “glue” between owners and field teams — translating vision into action
  • Execute initiatives beyond construction, including team development, culture building, and process refinement
  • Build scalable infrastructure for project forecasting, resource planning, and margin optimization

Culture and Leadership Development

  • Cultivate an accountable, empowered, values-driven team culture
  • Mentor emerging leaders, creating a sustainable leadership pipeline
  • Facilitate regular performance reviews and structured one-on-ones across departments

Client, City & Subcontractor Relations

  • Strengthen strategic relationships with subcontractors, vendors, city officials, and clients
  • Drive communication strategies that position the company as a trusted and proactive builder
  • Serve as escalation point for field and client-facing conflicts

What Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Construction schedules and margin goals are consistently met or exceeded
  • Office and field leadership are aligned, accountable, and confident in their roles
  • Subcontractor partnerships are predictable, high-quality, and well-managed
  • Internal team culture reflects initiative, clarity, and trust
  • The ownership team is freed up to focus on growth, while confident in day-to-day execution

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 10+ years of senior construction operations leadership (Commercial or Residential)
  • Proven success leading both office and field teams
  • Strong financial acumen: understands job costing, margin management, and forecasting
  • Natural team builder with emotional intelligence and follow-through
  • Confident in city, client, and vendor-facing roles
  • Systems thinker — passionate about improving processes and people

Bonus Qualities

  • Familiar with Procore, BuilderTrend, or similar platforms
  • Background in growing small-to-mid-sized construction companies
  • Hands-on leadership style: gets into the details, empowers others, leads by example
