The Chief Engineer is a strategic and operational leader responsible for overseeing the maintenance, engineering, and project management functions across a portfolio of high-end properties, including luxury residential buildings and upscale hotels. This role ensures the functionality, safety, efficiency, and visual excellence of all facilities. Key Responsibilities1. Maintenance & Facility Operations

Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programs.

Oversee all major building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, and water treatment.

Manage service contracts and vendor relationships to ensure high-quality, cost-effective services.

Conduct routine inspections to maintain optimal safety and performance standards.

Integrate building automation systems for improved energy and operational efficiency.
2. Team Leadership

Hire, train, and lead engineering and security personnel.

Promote a positive, performance-driven team culture.

Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching and development opportunities.
3. Project Management

Lead capital improvement and renovation projects from concept to completion.

Develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, and timelines.

Provide regular project status updates and reports to executive leadership.
4. Budgeting & Resource Management

Prepare and manage departmental budgets for maintenance, staffing, and capital projects.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement energy-efficient practices.

Optimize allocation of resources to maximize operational effectiveness.
5. Safety & Regulatory Compliance

Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local safety codes and environmental regulations.

Implement emergency preparedness plans, lead regular safety drills, and train staff on emergency procedures.

Maintain all safety records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.
6. Sustainability & Energy Management

Design and implement strategies to reduce energy and water consumption.

Oversee recycling, waste management, and environmentally responsible facility practices.

Monitor utility usage and recommend sustainability improvements aligned with company goals.
7. Stakeholder Engagement

Act as a liaison between engineering operations and stakeholders, including property managers, residents, guests, and board members.

Address and resolve maintenance-related concerns promptly and professionally.

Prepare and present reports on facilities performance, improvement plans, and ongoing initiatives.
8. Reporting & Documentation

Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, asset inventories, and compliance certifications.

Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for planning, tracking, and reporting.

Deliver regular updates and operational performance metrics to senior management.
QualificationsEducation
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.

Advanced certifications (e.g., Certified Facility Manager, Professional Engineer) strongly preferred.
Experience

7–10 years of progressive experience in engineering or facilities management, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or senior leadership role.

Experience in luxury residential or hospitality environments is highly desirable.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

In-depth technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical infrastructure.

Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
Licenses or Certificates
