BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Assurance Technician performs a variety of testing, inspection, corrective actions and Quality issue resolution. Monitor and inspect housekeeping and sanitation when performing USDA inspections. Analyze and grade samples and properly fill up paperwork according to USDA’s Quality Assurance Program. Works cooperatively with other Lab Techs performing physical and chemical property analyses of materials, and finished goods requiring test certification for shipping. In the Plant, the Quality Assurance Tech will obtain samples, liaise with production personnel to identify and apply root cause solutions to in-process Quality issues. Obtain samples for microbiological testing using proper techniques. The Quality Assurance Technician monitors materials, finished products and all processes to assure compliance with all regulations, GMP's and quality/food safety standards/specifications. Work a 12-hour shift and extended hours as required. Assist training new employees and give them guidance when necessary. Demonstrate good attendance. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs daily checks of finished products and provides immediate feedback to QA management and production supervisors. Analyze and grade samples and properly fill up paperwork according to USDA’s. Where specifications are not met, request product on hold. Conducts inspections and enforces good manufacturing practices. Obtain samples and perform analytical testing, compare against established standards and record results in paperwork and/or computer. Obtain samples for microbiological testing using proper techniques. Conduct routine comparisons of products against established standards with regard to uniform color, clarity, appearance, defects, flavor, aroma and texture. Understand policies, procedures, technical manuals, and other material pertaining to the operation and make decisions when appropriate. Follow existing policies for data recording and record keeping. Consult with and communicate with QA Manager and other department responsible personnel to ensure customer compliance is met. Calibrate and verifies the accuracie of laboratory instruments and prepare chemical solutions. Inspect areas for GMP and sanitation according to USDA’s Quality Assurance Program. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS [Minimum level of formal education that is required to perform this job satisfactorily]

Vocational School or some college courses preferred. At least 1-3 years QA experience in a food plant preferred.

TRAINING, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Excellent oral and written skills. Skill to document findings and data clearly, concisely and accurately. Demonstrated ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced production environment. Strong analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with managers, supervisors and production floor employees. Able to work flexible hours and shifts (afternoon/nights) including weekends. Knowledge of food safety, GMP programs and Quality Systems. Experience with use of computers for collection and analysis of experimental data. Proven ability to set goals, implement project plans, and monitor progress. Fully trained in microbiological sampling techniques including understanding of concepts. Must be able to work without direct supervision.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Operate other equipment when required. Be a team member in the quality improvement process. Participate in the CCJ safety program. Participate in the CCJ GMP program. Learn other jobs in the functional area. Train new employees.

EQUIPMENT

Computer and associated equipment, spectrophotometer, refractometer, viscometer, colorimeter, centrifuges, pH meter, electronic balance, Titration equipment, laboratory glassware, autoclave/oven, safety glasses, bump cap, ear plugs, gloves, apron.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in laboratory, warehouse, and on a multi-level production floor. Requires exposure to temperature extremes, high noise levels, moving equipment, fumes, vibrations, dust, wetness, toxic chemicals, etc.
