JOB SUMMARY

The Preconstruction Engineer plays a key role in supporting the estimating and planning phases of commercial construction projects. This position assists with bid preparation, cost estimating, constructability reviews, and project coordination to ensure accurate and competitive proposals. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and collaborative, with a strong understanding of construction systems and processes. Working closely with project teams, the Preconstruction Engineer helps deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions that align with client needs and company standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or 5 years of equivalent experience).
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and cost structures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and estimating or takeoff software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative attitude and commitment to teamwork and client satisfaction.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and analyze construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to define project scope, identify risks, and support accurate project planning.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid proposals using industry-standard estimating software.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure comprehensive and competitive project coverage.
  • Support constructability reviews, value engineering initiatives, and preconstruction scheduling to optimize project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to confirm alignment on project scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Assist with project handoff to operations and maintain estimating databases for future reference.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support preconstruction and project objectives.
