Job DescriptionSalary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Fact Witness Management Legal Clerk to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will possess strong research and administrative skills, with a background in legal processes and documentation. This role is essential in supporting attorneys and ensuring smooth operations within the office. The Legal Clerk will assist with various tasks, including legal drafting, filing, and data entry, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.


Responsibilities

  • Assist fact witnesses before, during, and after trials and hearings.
  • Respond to inquiries from witnesses regarding travel, scheduling, and reimbursement.
  • Arrange travel and lodging for witnesses in accordance with DOJ and USAO policies.
  • Notify witnesses of appearance times, assess special needs, and escalate to AUSAs when necessary.
  • Coordinate with AUSAs on special authorization cases, including military or international witnesses.
  • Meet arriving witnesses, offer courtroom orientation, and ensure secure waiting areas.
  • Collect necessary signatures and documents for witness travel reimbursement.
  • Prepare, submit, and track travel vouchers and related financial documentation.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Courts, Pretrial Services, U.S. Marshals, and investigative agencies.
  • Compose routine correspondence related to fact witness issues.
  • Maintain witness files, databases, and scheduling systems.
  • Track hearings, trial dates, and witness appearances using internal systems.
  • Perform general administrative and logistical duties as needed for fact witness support.


Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelors degree preferred.
  • Experience in clerical, legal, or customer-facing roles highly desirable.
  • Experience with legal office operations, travel processing, or witness coordination preferred.


Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information and comply with confidentiality requirements.
  • Proficient in word processing, data entry, and database use.
  • Capable of performing analytical computations and preparing reports.
  • Skilled in prioritizing tasks and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology, courtroom procedures, and administrative protocols.
  • Ability to coordinate with internal and external agencies effectively.
  • Comfortable working under pressure with shifting priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to learn DOJ/USAO-specific software and systems.
