Position Summary
The Construction Safety Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of all personnel and operations across CPM Builders interior retail construction projects. This individual will oversee safety compliance, training, and job-site inspections, helping maintain a zero-incident culture and ensuring that every project meets OSHA and company safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety programs tailored for interior retail construction environments.
- Conduct regular job-site safety inspections and hazard assessments at active project locations.
- Ensure all site activities comply with OSHA, local, and state regulations, as well as CPM Builders internal safety policies.
- Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and refresher trainings for project teams, subcontractors, and tradespeople.
- Identify potential risks specific to interior retail projects (e.g., confined spaces, tenant coordination, working in occupied retail environments) and recommend proactive solutions.
- Investigate and document all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to promote a culture of safety and accountability.
- Maintain accurate and timely safety records, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Support pre-construction safety planning for new retail fit-out projects.
- Serve as the companys safety representative during client walkthroughs, inspections, and audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in occupational safety, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 35 years of safety experience in commercial interior construction or retail buildouts.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required; CHST, CSP, or equivalent certifications preferred.
- Strong knowledge of interior construction safety practices, including finish trades, MEP coordination, and tenant space work.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to train and influence field personnel.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Ability to travel to multiple job sites as needed.
