Job Description
E3D Piping Designer – Pulp & Paper Manufacturing
Location: Remote
Since 1991, our client has delivered industry-leading detail design engineering services across North America, Asia, and South America. They specialize in intelligent 3D modeling, design data, and project documentation for commercial and industrial projects. They utilize AVEVA Engineering™ technology — including PDMS and E3D — to enable multi-disciplinary teams to develop detailed, data-rich definitions of complex engineering systems.
Position Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced E3D Piping Designer to support pulp and paper manufacturing projects. In this role, you will be responsible for developing detailed 3D piping models and construction drawings for complex industrial process systems — including digesters, evaporator islands, fiberline systems, recaust plants, and balance-of-plant (BOP) installations. You will work within a collaborative multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, civil/structural, and electrical/instrumentation engineers to deliver complete, accurate, and constructible designs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D piping models using AVEVA E3D (Everything3D) software in accordance with project specifications, P&IDs, and engineering standards
- Produce construction drawings including plan views, sections, isometrics, and piping arrangement drawings
- Design process piping systems in compliance with ANSI B31.1 (Power Piping) and ANSI B31.3 (Process Piping) codes
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers on the design and routing of piping for pulp and paper process systems, including:
- Fiberline and digester systems
- Evaporator and concentrator systems
- Recaust and caustic plant systems
- Boiler installations and power piping
- Scrubber, pollution control, and odor control systems
- Heat exchangers and pressure vessels
- Rotating equipment connections (pumps, compressors, fans)
- Develop and maintain pipe support designs, equipment nozzle orientations, and clearance studies
- Generate and manage project data including line lists, valve lists, equipment lists, and material take-offs (MTOs)
- Coordinate clash detection and resolution across disciplines within the E3D model
- Participate in model reviews (30%/60%/90%) and incorporate review comments promptly
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial piping design, with at least 2 years using AVEVA E3D or PDMS
- Demonstrated experience on pulp and paper or other heavy industrial process projects
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and engineering specifications
- Working knowledge of ANSI B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes
- Experience producing isometric drawings and pipe support designs
- Familiarity with common pulp and paper process systems and associated materials (stainless steel, alloy, carbon steel, lined piping, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AVEVA Engineering™ data management tools (tag registers, line lists, instrument lists)
- Background in fiberline, chemical recovery, or kraft pulp process systems
- Experience on international or multi-site projects
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for supplemental 2D drafting
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field
