What You’ll Do:

We’re searching for a hard-working deckhand to join our team. In this role, it will be your responsibility to perform a variety of tasks that help our ferry function. Your duties will include directing vehicles and passengers on and off the ferry.

  • Must safely navigate inland waters in a highly trafficked vessel convergence area.
  • Safety of passengers, Deckhands, Mechanics and maintenance personnel on board the vessel.
  • Responsible for the response to any emergency conditions that occurs while in transit or moored.
  • Report vessel malfunctions, and any unsafe conditions to port captains immediately.
  • Arrive for duty fifteen minutes before shift for briefing by off-going officer.
  • First line supervisor of Deckhands that are assigned to the vessel.
  • Fill out ships log; keep an ongoing log of trips, vehicles, and any events.
  • Comply with all Fisher Island standards (i.e., grooming, conduct, policies and procedures).
  • Be familiar with both company and departments policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of all safety systems and procedures.
  • Must actively monitor marine VHF Radio Ch 16, 13 and company radio frequencies.
  • Able to work any shift, including flexible schedules, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Perform other duties as requested by FICA management.

Requirements:

  • USCG and MRO licenses
  • High school diploma
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Mechanical ability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Neat appearance
  • Ability to swim (Required)
  • Speak, read and write English

To be successful in this position, we are looking for team members who excel in providing excellent experience for our residents, employees, guests, and contractors. This role requires a minimum of 100GT Auto/Passenger Vessel license equivalent experience and a strong dedication to safety.

Licenses, Certifications, Registration:Requires a Driver’s License, USCG and MRO licenses.
