General summary:

The General Liability Attorney is responsible for managing general liability matters from initial evaluation through resolution. Responsibilities include handling discovery, taking depositions, drafting and arguing motions, responding to client and claims inquiries, negotiating matters toward resolution, and conducting court appearances as required. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, sound legal judgment, effective organization, and the ability to work collaboratively within the practice group. Adaptability and openness to guidance are important in supporting consistent case strategy and performance expectations.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages general liability cases from intake through resolution.
  • Conducts discovery, including drafting/responding to requests and reviewing records.
  • Conducts and defends depositions of claimants, witnesses, and experts.
  • Drafts, argues, and responds to evidentiary and procedural motions.
  • Prepares case evaluations, analyses, and status reports per client guidelines.
  • Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial.
  • Drafts pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence.
  • Represents clients at hearings, mediations, and court appearances.
  • Maintains accurate, timely billing and documentation in accordance with firm and client standards.
  • Coordinates case tasks with paralegals and support staff.
  • Participates in internal meetings and incorporates feedback from supervising attorneys.
  • Communicates regularly with clients, carriers, adjusters, experts, and opposing counsel.
  • Maintain accurate case documentation and meet all court and internal deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with Florida statues, procedural rules, and ethical standards.

Essential Skills/Abilities & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Florida general liability laws, procedures, and defense strategies.
  • Ability to independently manage case files from assessment through resolution.
  • Proficiency in legal research, case analysis, and written advocacy.

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar.
  • 1-3 years of workers' compensation defense experience.
  • Civil litigation defense experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Some Travel (depending on Practice Group) may be required
