Step-By-Step Behavioral Health is a welcoming and fast-growing agency seeking a Full-time School-Based Therapist for the Arlington Area.

The School-Based Therapist (Arlington Area) provides short- and long-term outpatient counseling to children, adolescents, young adults (ages 5-19), and their families. Services are provided in school. The therapist supports clients in addressing issues such as trauma, mood and behavioral disorders, anxiety, family dynamics, grief/loss, self-esteem, abuse, and school-related challenges. Emphasis is placed on both prevention and therapeutic interventions to enhance emotional, behavioral, and relational well-being.

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of psychological, behavioral, and emotional functioning.
  • Working knowledge of DSM/ICD diagnoses and trauma-informed practices.
  • Excellent interviewing, assessment, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to engage clients and families effectively and respectfully.
  • Sound decision-making in crises.
  • Proficiency in collaboration and communication with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to diverse work settings and client needs.

Skills:

  • Strong assessment and interviewing skills

  • Minimal supervision required regarding the use of time, able to prioritize work assignments

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preference to work with children, 5 - 19 years of age.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments using approved tools.
  • Develop and implement individualized, measurable treatment plans in collaboration with youth and families.
  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy using trauma-informed, evidence-based methods.
  • Maintain timely, complete documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate care and consult with other professionals, internal and external to the agency.
  • Evaluate progress and adjust treatment plans as clinically appropriate.
  • Participate in case consultations, peer reviews, and quality assurance activities.
  • Provide community outreach and maintain professional contacts to support referrals.
  • Maintain productivity targets, including new-case openings and service-delivery benchmarks.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with HIPAA and all confidentiality requirements.
  • Complete mandatory training and attend required staff meetings.
  • All other duties assigned.

Education and Experience


Education and Experience: Master's degree in social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family counseling, or related area of study from an accredited college or university recognized by the Florida Department of Education and two years of related experience in social work, psychology, or counseling with at-risk youth and families; licensed-eligible in the State of Florida preferred. Applicant must be a registered intern with the Florida Department of Health and be working toward licensure. A valid Florida drivers license and safe driving record are required.

Physical Demands
This is a sedentary position, and the incumbent will be required to sit approximately 70 per cent of the time. Little to moderate lifting of less than 25 lbs. may be required.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
