SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
• Reports directly to the Production Manager and Assistant Production Manager.
• Assures that all of the welders are certified and status is current.
• Assures fitters are trained and competent in good shipyard practice.
• Assures that the Foremen and Leadmen understand the scope of work and assign the appropriate personnel to meet the needs of the production.
• Works with the contract Managers and Production Manager to assure that the jobs are manned appropriately and assists in planning prior to job initiation.
• Provides short- and long-term solutions to boost production.
• Maintains a working file of materials and consumables along with QA and Purchasing to stay in compliance with all regulatory bodies.
• Order all materials for steel repairs.
• Attends all production and planning meetings.
• Hold attendance and goes over job safety analysis at morning assembly.
• Coordinates with other crafts and shifts to maintain continuity and effectiveness on all jobs.
• Responsible for all equipment associated with the Steel Department and north slab.
• Assist Production and HR in the recruitment and hiring of employees as needed.
• Comes in one (1) hour early to go over timesheets and check production status on all jobs.
• Stays half (1/2) hour minimum into 2 nd shift to assure that all turnovers are understood and the jobs are manned properly.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 8 to 10 years experience in the shipbuilding, ship repair, or similar construction industry
• 3 to 5 years management or supervisory experience
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for all operations concerning this craft and coordinate with other crafts.
JOB PERFORMANCE:
To perform this job successfully and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND SKILLS LEVELS:
• Must have thorough knowledge of planning and scheduling of tasks.
• Ability to inspect work assignments prior to regulatory inspections and obtain sign offs.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
10 th grade level or above
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of customers and/or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
10 th grade level or above.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
None required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee is frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in the performance of essential duties and responsibilities of this job. The employee may be required to climb or balance above a height of 5 feet in the performance of essential duties and responsibilities of this job. The employee should test in the acceptable range for vision, hearing, and respiratory functions.
• Specific physical requirements include the following:
• Ability to lift 50-75 pounds on a consistent daily basis
• Ability to bend, stoop, climb aboard ships
• Ability to work in confine spaces
• Ability to work above ground at heights of a minimum 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man lifts while working with machinery.
• Ability to withstand extreme heat in outside climate or confined spaces
• Physical and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment as prescribed under OSHA standards
• Ability to stand for a minimum of 2 hours while conducting regular work duties
• Ability to respond to voice commands and audile alarms

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

SAFETY:

performing daily job tasks.
- Knowledge of OSHA Regulations, and ANSI Standards in crane operations.
- Proficient in oral and written communication skills.
- Pass drug test and physical check.
