Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or Special Education, Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS), and 1+ years Orientation and Mobility Specialist experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A K-12 school in Naples, FL is seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support students with visual impairments. This contract position is for the current school year (CSY) and offers the opportunity to provide specialized services that enhance student independence and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments for visually impaired students
- Develop and implement individualized mobility plans tailored to student needs
- Teach safe travel techniques using canes, guide dogs, and other mobility aids
- Collaborate with educational staff and families to support student progress
- Maintain detailed records and reports of student services and outcomes
Qualifications:
- Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or equivalent)
- Experience working with school-aged children in K-12 settings
- Knowledge of best practices in orientation and mobility instruction
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to diverse student needs
