AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today's five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Project Engineer / Technical Lead who thrives in a dynamic startup environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of technical delivery from end to end. You will serve as the primary technical partner for one of our most important customers, supporting everything from gateway deployment to live commercial services. This position blends hands-on engineering with customer-facing leadership and cross-functional coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for a key customer or market (Canada and Latin America)
  • Understand customer needs and translate them into practical, scalable solutions
  • Build trust through responsiveness, technical expertise, and proactive support
  • Travel to deployment sites as needed to guide technical teams
  • Lead projects from concept through commercial launch, ensuring smooth transitions
  • Monitor progress, track issues, and drive resolution
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Drive technical execution while remaining hands-on
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Service Enablement, Delivery, Assurance) while acting as the single technical voice to the customer
  • Provide field and customer feedback to help shape technical strategy

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in engineering (Telecom, Electrical, Computer, or related field)

Experience:

A minimum of 4 years of experience in hands-on technical project delivery, system integration, or field engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with customers
  • Practical knowledge of gateways, system architecture, and wireless networks
  • Willingness to travel for deployments, site visits, and customer support
  • Experience with large-scale telecom, satellite, or IoT deployments
  • Deep understanding of wireless systems including LTE, 5G, and IoT
  • Startup mindset: resourceful, adaptable, and action-oriented
  • Highly organized and results-driven

Soft Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and deliverables

Technology Stack

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Jira for issue tracking and project management

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods
  • Willingness to travel as needed for deployments and customer support
