The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for “at-risk” youth.

We are currently seeking a FT Intake Assessment Coordinator at our Center for Men in Miami, FL

JOB SUMMARY

The Intake Assessment Coordinator (IAC) reports to the Emergency Services Supervisor and oversees the intake and orientation of new residents to the program. Duties include screening clients for intake; performing intake assessment; conducting and building positive relations within the community; providing intake of homeless clients based on space availability; conducting aftercare; facilitating a motivational and welcoming environment; ensuring that the Intake/Screening Unit and Support Services meet county requirements.

CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Treats incoming residents with respect and dignity with a welcoming and cordial attitude
  • Keeps an accurate inventory of beds and clients
  • Compiles and submits accurate reports to supervisor
  • Follows company guidelines to ensure compliance with contract
  • Encourages and motivates residents and builds relationships that will help them become stable contributing citizens
  • Documents all cases accurately and timely, ensuring that accurate data is used to compile reports
  • Keeps an accurate filing system for client files and occupancy
  • Implements and follows an efficient system to periodically track the progress of residents
  • Works collaboratively with case managers and supervisor to ensure residents are assigned to appropriate case managers
  • Communicates effectively and keeps supervisor informed of all challenges
  • Exercises good judgment and seeks clarification from supervisor when difficult situations arise
  • Assist with Jackson Health Insurance application
  • Maintain clear and functional communication with Behavioral Health team and 3rd party vendors (i.e. New Horizons Mental Health Network)
  • Assist with record keeping of funding for Annex project
  • Assist callers in need with problem resolution
  • Work with existing clients in keeping and scheduling appointments with Miami Rescue Mission Clinic and other outside agencies
  • Issue ID cards to resident clients
  • Keep all Center staff members informed about client changes through email system
  • Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
  • Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have an AA degree or previous on-the-job training in Social Work or a related field; Bachelor’s degree with a major in sociology, psychology, social work or related field is preferred
  • CAP training is a plus
  • Must have knowledge of alcoholism and chemical dependency and homelessness
  • Requires the ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency and recognize symptoms of common mental and physical illnesses and make appropriate referrals for their treatment
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation and sexual orientation
  • Must be organized and computer literate
  • Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods, and have the ability to lift and/or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must also be able to see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
  • Must also be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
