Job Summary
The Manager of the Welding Department shall plan, coordinate and manage personnel. The Manager of the welding department will monitor the progress of the operations, and ensures employees are safe. They will also inspect final products to make sure they meet Bradford’s quality and standard.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Ensure welding and brazing procedures, welders, welding operators, and brazers are qualified in accordance with guidelines and contract requirements
- Performs and supervises specialized welding and fabrication in the areas of aluminum, non-ferrous, and stainless steel
- Manages a team of welders
- Ensure Bradford maintains any required certifications
- Ensure Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) performed by subcontractors meets contract requirements
- Establish processes and procedures necessary to ensure the quality of welding at the business including but not limited to welding sequences to minimize distortion, preheat/post heat controls, and weld repair techniques
- Work closely with Manager of Service Operations, to maintain the quality of welding and identify improvements in the welding process
- Monitor the performance personnel
- Weld repair recommendations
- Development of weld procedures and qualification
- Reduction and interpretation of weld defects
- Develop further existing fitting & welding processes and tools
- Assist with equipment specification and purchase
- Understand and ensure compliance with contract documents and Class requirements
- Act as a liaison to various customers and management
- A good understanding of NDT methods and ability to conduct a thorough root cause analysis of defects
- Ensures quality of work by department meets or exceeds standards
- Able to respect, listen an motivate department employees
- Plan and organize department goals by developing plan of action, and managing labor utilization
- Prioritize open communication and pass information quickly and effectively to ensure all employees have the necessary information
- The ability to plan effectively toward a long-term goal and make necessary adjustments based on changing variables
- The ability to share job knowledge by coaching, mentoring, and finding learning opportunities within the company or outside career development education
- Meeting customers' and employees' needs by generating new ideas to improve company processes and procedures continually
- Following company, industry and best practices regarding safety standards (safe equipment usage, personal protective equipment, reporting)

Education, Work Experience, Licenses, and Certificates
- Years of relevant work experience required: 5 years of welding experience in addition to supervising staff
- Knowledge of welding processes and techniques
- Computer knowledge
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Requires climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting
- Requires the ability to use speech, vision and hearing
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
- Requires at times to work in an office using of office equipment and computer
- Exposure to changes in temperature and humidity
- Work is performed outside in the elements, on and around water
