The Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) will play a critical role in implementing the Safety First: Real Drug Education for Teens Initiative- a community-based harm reduction and prevention program focused on reducing youth substance use and increasing access to behavioral health supports. The CAP will provide direct clinical services, substance use screening, assessment, counseling, and ref-erral coordination for youth ages 14-24 identified as at-risk for or currently experiencing substance use concerns. The CAP will also collaborate with families, schools, and community partners to deliver evidence-based interventions and ensure continuity of care within the Safety First program framework.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties (Key Tasks)

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and substance use screenings for youth and families using evidence-based tools. Develop and maintain individualized service plans and document progress in Tebra EHR system.
  • Provide brief intervention and counseling services using harm reduction and motivational interviewing approaches.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate group sessions utilizing the Safety First: Real Drug Education for Teens curriculum.
  • Offer family education and support, providing parents and caregivers with information and resources on substance misuse prevention and harm reduction.
  • Make and track referrals to community-based behavioral health, primary care, and recovery support services.
  • Participate in case coordination meetings with the Program Manager, Community Specialist, Peer Support Specialist, and other collaborative partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all client communications and documentation in accordance with HIPAA and CARF standards.
  • Support the evaluation and data collection process through accurate documentation, pre/post surveys, and outcome tracking.
  • Participate in community outreach events and workshops to raise awareness about harm reduction and treatment access in the targeted zip codes.
  • Maintain active certification and participate in professional development and training as required by the grant.


Educational Qualifications

  • Current Florida Certified Addictions Professional (CAP) credential or higher (M, LMFT CAP, LCSW, LMHC with substance use focus).
  • Minimum of 2 years or experience providing substance use or behavioral health services to adolescents or young adults. Demonstrated understanding of harm reduction principles, motivational interviewing, and culturally responsive practice. Familiarity with issues impacting underserved and minority populations, particularly African American, Hispanic, and Haitian communities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; ability to engage youth and families with empathy and respect. Proficiency with electronic health records (HER) and documentation compliance.
  • Ability to pass Miami-Dade County Public Schools Level 2 background screening.


Relevant Experience

  • Experience working in school-based or community-based prevention programs.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, social determinants of health, and harm reduction outreach.
  • Bilingual in English and either Spanish or Haitian Creole
