Position Summary:
The Development Director, Mandel JCC is a dynamic results-driven fundraising professional with a passion for building community and increasing philanthropy. This innovative high-energy, leader collaborates with Mandel JCC and Federation professional and lay leaders to drive philanthropic growth in the greater Palm Beaches, one of the largest and fastest growing Jewish communities in North America.
The Director applies a relationship-focused strategy to foster connections with new donors and nurture existing relationships. In partnership with colleagues and volunteers, the Director creates personalized solicitation strategies, stewardship plans and ambassador assignments for top-tier donors. The integral role also works closely with programming staff to secure corporate sponsorships designated for key agency activities.
In addition to cultivating and strengthening donor relationships, the Director works with Federation’s development operations team on gift processing, acknowledgments, and donor communications. The Director also works closely with the Mandel JCC and Federation finance teams on development revenue budgeting reforecasting, tracking, and reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with Mandel JCC and Federation professional and lay leadership to establish and implement fundraising goals and development plans, fostering a unified, relationship driven approach to achieving organizational objectives.
- Provides dedicated support to leaders and ambassadors managing $1,000+ donor relationships, including coordinating solicitation assignments, stewardship plans, and status updates on donor activity and relevant initiatives.
- Meets regularly with C-level leaders to strategize and implement stewardship plans for major donors in their portfolios, ensuring a personalized and effective engagement strategy.
- Develops and implements comprehensive role descriptions, meeting agendas, donor assignments, development reports and fundraising activities for Development Committee chairs and members. This includes creating a structured framework for fundraising activities.
- Partners with programming staff to identify and implement fundraising and sponsorship opportunities that align with donor interests and involvement, providing essential support to individual programs.
- Monitors and analyzes daily and monthly metrics related to donor activity, ensuring data accuracy, and generates insightful management reports to examine trends and measure results against goals. Collaborates seamlessly with colleagues to recommend and implement strategic enhancements across team-wide activities to support revenue goals.
- Coordinates with Federation’s Campaign team to integrate comprehensive solicitation plans that account for designated gifts to the Mandel JCC and where appropriate include Annual Campaign and Campaign for the Future commitments. Motivates and prepares professional and volunteer solicitors, ensuring follow up on agreed upon commitments.
- Proactively identify, cultivate, and solicit new individual, corporate, and foundation donors to expand the JCC's base of philanthropic support.
- Engages in strategic long-term planning for capital and endowment development aimed at growth and stability of the Mandel JCC. Collaborates with Mandel JCC CEO to formulate a comprehensive fundraising strategy including donor recognition programs, major donor cultivation, grants, and community outreach. Coordinates with the JCC marketing team to create impactful campaign communication strategies.
- Coordinates with Designated Gifts administrator, Donor Information Services team and relevant Mandel JCC operations and finance staff to ensure timely gift processing, acknowledgements, and reporting.
- Oversees collaboration with the Corporate Relations contractor to create individualized proposals for corporate sponsors, ensuring a tailored and impactful approach. Partners with the Grants Manager to maximize gift opportunities and provide essential support for funding needs. Engages in strategic grant applications, adept proposal writing, and meticulous creation of impactful donor/sponsor impact reports.
- Works with Federation and/or agency marketing teams to support agreed upon development communications and other marketing needs.
- Designs and implements an integrated and comprehensive stewardship program that promotes engagement and connection with donors at all levels.
- Collaborates with the Mandel JCC leadership team by attending weekly meetings to discuss strategic planning, financial management, program development, community engagement, facility management and lay leader relations.
- Director is expected to divide their time and operate from three distinct locations: Mandel JCC-Palm Beach Gardens, Mandel JCC-Boynton Beach, and Federation West Palm Beach office.
- Proactively takes on additional responsibilities beyond the scope of development tasks, to effectively address essential operational needs of both the Mandel JCC and Federation.

Qualifications and Success Factors:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preference for master’s degree or greater.
- Five or more years’ experience in fundraising or stewardship role required or equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Strong knowledge of basic office computing, including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), Zoom and basic database skills required.
- Proactive and adaptable self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively with senior leaders, volunteers, and team members.
- Focused on building and maintaining strong meaningful relationships with donors, leaders, and stakeholders.
- Acute attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and planning skills.
- Capable of interpreting reports, identifying trends, and setting realistic goals and projections.
- Strong project planning and management skills.
- Develops and utilizes systems to organize information and track deliverables effectively.
- In-depth proficiency using management-level functions of donor databases and CRM systems.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in priority setting and time management:
- Incisive about determining what is most important and plans with an appropriate and realistic sense of time demand.
- Must be able to handle confidential data with sensitivity and discretion.
- Must be able to pass Level 2 background check.
- Must maintain valid Florida driver’s license.
- Must be able to work off-shift hours including nights and weekends, as needed.
- Must be able to work a minimum of three (3) events annually.
Work Environment:
If deemed eligible to work from home occasionally, Federation policy requires employees:
• Follow all Federation policies and procedures,
• Be available to other employees during Federation’s normal business hours,
• Not work from a public place (e.g. coffee shop, library, etc.) and/or join a public, unsecure wi-fi network when working with sensitive or confidential information,
• Coordinate with IT department to maintain appropriate computer equipment and connectivity.
