The Claims Handler is pivotal in managing personal injury claims at the pre-litigation stage. The role involves the initial opening of claims with insurance companies, gathering and reviewing accident reports, updating and maintaining case files in Clio with all necessary information and documents, setting up and monitoring medical treatment with Clients/Providers, and settlement/reductions execution with alignment with the Attorney.
Responsibilities:
- Claim Initiation and Setup:
- Initiate claims by contacting insurance companies, obtaining claim numbers, and documenting claim details in Clio.
- Request accident reports and any additional documentation necessary to support the client’s claim.
- File Setup and Documentation:
- Set up and organize files in Clio, completing all necessary custom fields, uploading documents, and maintaining accurate records throughout the case lifecycle.
- Document case information, ensuring comprehensive records of all communications with insurance providers, clients, and medical providers.
- Medical Treatment Coordination:
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, managing communication and scheduling with medical providers.
- Track and manage treatment schedules, assisting clients with coordination and ensuring consistency in care and documentation.
- Medical Records Management and Bill Negotiation:
- Request, gather, and organize medical records and bills, ensuring all treatment costs are documented.
- Negotiate reductions on medical bills with providers to support favorable settlement outcomes for clients.
- Case Progress Monitoring and Communication:
- Collaborate with attorneys, support staff, and case managers to ensure timely case progression, escalating cases as needed to meet service standards.
- Maintain regular updates on case status in Clio, providing all relevant team members with timely information to support effective case management.
- Team Collaboration and Reporting:
- Work closely with case managers, attorneys, and other team members, ensuring case files are complete, accurate, and ready for transition to the next phase.
- Promptly notify relevant parties, including the case manager, of significant updates to ensure proactive handling of each claim.
- Demand Writing: Prepare comprehensive demand letters, tailored to each case, to effectively communicate the client’s claim for settlement negotiations.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Case Manager is highly advantageous.
- High organizational skills and attention to detail are a must.
- Understanding of case management software, specifically Clio.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to write demand letters.
