School Theatre Directors, Music Directors, Choreographers, Rehearsal Managers (Seasonal)
Scheck Hillel Community School, a private school in Aventura FL (Miami area) seeks experienced educational theatre professionals for its upcoming productions of “Matilda Jr” (grades 3-5) and “Newsies Jr” (grades 6-12). For Matilda we seek a Music Director, Choreographer, and Rehearsal Manager; for Newsies we seek a Director and Music Director.
Responsibilities
- Run auditions and cast the show per established guidelines and procedures.
- Prepare blocking, vocal arrangements, and choreography in advance of working with actors.
- Plan and lead well-organized, productive, and enjoyable rehearsals that engage and challenge both experienced and beginning performers, provide for general skill-building, and meet weekly production goals.
- Build and maintain a safe, supportive environment for learning and risk-taking, dealing with student behavioral challenges with fairness, firmness, consistency, and compassion.
- Achieve high-level performances that delight and impress audiences.
Key Dates and Weekly Schedules
- All rehearsal and performance events take place on campus (19000 NE 25th Avenue, Miami FL)
- Auditions for both shows start the week of August 25, 2025
- Rehearsals are scheduled within these windows: Mon-Thu 3:45-6:30pm, Fri 2:15-4:00pm, Sun 10am-2pm
- Matilda full cast rehearsals are Mon/Wed plus one Sunday per month; add’l lead rehearsals by arrangement; performances are February 4-8, 2026.
- Newsies full cast rehearsals are Tue/Thu plus one Sunday per month; add’l lead rehearsals by arrangement; performances are March 6-15, 2026.
Requirements
- Experience working with young performers of this age range and level of experience.
- Success serving in similar roles in similar projects.
- Availability for all relevant rehearsal and production events (varies by role); means of transportation is the responsibility of the staff member.
- Reliability/dependability; personal warmth and ability to make each student feel “seen,” organization and efficiency; flexibility and resilience; collegial, generous collaborator.
