The paralegal will work directly with attorneys and perform a variety of duties to assist attorneys in the litigation process. The paralegal must be able to make independent decisions regarding cases and be able to initiate contact with clients, attorneys and other involved parties. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the preparation and filing of legal documents with courts
- Assisting in drafting pleadings, discovery responses, and motions
- Scheduling, confirming, and assisting lawyers in preparation for depositions
- Preparing, organizing, and maintaining the firm's electronic and paper filing systems according to the firm's defined procedures
- Able to work in person
- Reviewing and assembling documents to be used at deposition
- Abstracting deposition transcripts
- Preparing witness files
- Reviewing, organizing and bates stamping documents
- Indexing and summarizing documents using Relativity or other database programs
- Organizing and analyzing client files
- Preparing chronologies and indices
- Attending document productions
- Arranging for and assisting with expert witnesses
- Drafting and arranging for the service and follow up of both federal and state court subpoenas ad testificandum and duces tecum
- Being familiar with the rules and procedures of Florida federal and state courts; including, but not limited to, the requirements for the filing of documents both in person and electronically using CM/ECF systems
- Performing legal, non-legal and medical research, on-line research using Lexis, Westlaw and the Internet
- Assisting attorneys in preparation of a case for trial
Requirements
Applicants must have 5+ years of litigation paralegal experience in a law firm environment, preferably in the area of personal injury law. A four year college degree is preferred, with an advanced degree in a related field or a paralegal certificate is highly desirable. Additional qualifications and skills desired are:
- Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Bilingual (Spanish is a PLUS)
- Knowledge of Client Profile (Aderant Total Office)
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize to meet deadlines and adjust to workload fluctuations in a fast paced environment
