About the Role

We are seeking experienced Shipyard Painters with blaster expertise to join our Jacksonville, FL team. This role requires skilled painters who can perform surface preparation and painting on naval vessels, with a strong focus on abrasive blasting and related ship structures. Candidates must have proven shipyard experience and a thorough understanding of ship maintenance and repair protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and paint ship surfaces including hulls, decks, and structural components using abrasive blasting and various painting methods.

  • Perform surface preparation including sandblasting, abrasive blasting, sanding, and cleaning to ensure proper paint adhesion and finish quality.

  • Apply primers, coatings, and topcoats in accordance with specifications, safety standards, and manufacturer guidelines.

  • Inspect painted and blasted surfaces for quality, uniformity, and adherence to shipyard and NAVSEA standards.

  • Maintain painting and blasting equipment and supplies, ensuring proper storage and handling of hazardous materials.

  • Follow strict safety procedures, including PPE use and environmental regulations related to blasting and painting operations.

  • Collaborate with shipyard teams to coordinate painting and blasting schedules and project timelines.

  • Document painting and blasting work completed and report any issues or discrepancies to supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of shipyard painting and abrasive blasting experience.

  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation techniques such as sandblasting and abrasive blasting.

  • Familiarity with marine-grade paints, coatings, and application equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and ship repair drawings.

  • Understanding of NAVSEA and shipyard safety protocols, including handling of hazardous materials.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions typical of shipyard environments.

  • Valid OSHA safety certifications (e.g., OSHA Maritime)

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks standing, bending, and climbing.
