POSITION PURPOSE:
The Nurse III-Clinical Coordinator is responsible for management of the clinical functions of assigned patient care areas. He/she is responsible for providing effective leadership to the clinical staff, has knowledge of the organization and function of the agency and coordinates all unit activities in accordance with Agency Policies as well as all State and Federal requirements.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. 5 year’s experience as R.N. and 2 year’s experience as charge nurse desired.
Licensure / Certification:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida required. Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
Skills / Ability:
Demonstrates expertise in staff supervision, evaluation, development, training and knowledge regarding State and Federal Regulations. Evidence of this includes, but is not limited to, effective communication skills and abilities to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, confront/resolve issues, motivate others, ability to plan, and organize and direct the activities of others.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS IS A EXEMPT POSITION)
Develops, plans and maintains an effective clinical organization and structure:
Nurtures and adheres to the agencies philosophy.
Maintains an effective clinical organizational structure and delegates to appropriate authority for completion of assigned responsibilities.
Ensures adherence to Policies and Procedures in accordance with JCAHO, State and Federal Regulations.
Utilizes leadership skills to accomplish the unit and agency goals through formal and informal direction of others.
Demonstrates the ability to utilize problem solving techniques with the appropriate degree of analysis; objectively and foresight to make decisions.
Ensures accreditation and licensing standards are met or exceeded.
Works collaboratively with staff from other departments.
Assumes the authority and responsibility for decisions relative to the effective functioning of the unit.
Demonstrates the ability to create, initiate and integrate new concepts and practices in coordination with the Department of Nursing Policies and Procedures.
Actively participates in meetings and other assigned committees.
Knowledgeable about Administrative and Clinical Policies & Procedures, and Emergency Procedures.
Ability to communicate these clearly and accurately to staff.
Participates in budget planning, preparation and oversight.
Provides accurate and timely documentation in patient charts within the same day of intervention.
Performs effective and efficient Personnel Management:

Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.

Schedule staff appropriately (commensurate with their qualifications) to meet patient care needs.
Maintains an effective and efficient daily staffing pattern within budgetary constraints.
Participates in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of new staff.
Assures that staffs meeting are held as appropriate.
Evaluates clinical staff based on specified performance standards.
Directs professional activities to maintain quality of services:
Assists the director in development, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing service programs that ensure quality nursing, and patient care programs, consistent with the centers mission.
Skilled in using interventions that respond to needs of dissatisfied patients.
Performs/participates in the assessment of patient care programs as assigned.
Participates in program development proposal, as requested by the divisional director.
Participates in audits that assure Performance Improvement and Quality of Health Care delivery.
Participate in agency Performance Improvement Activities.
Implements unit level program with defined parameters.
Evaluates program to identify effectiveness.
Submits reports regarding the above within the time frame specified by the director.
Provides employees with guidance and supervision, giving sufficient opportunity and authority to deliver their assignments and make decisions.
Accepts responsibility for action of work done by subordinates.
Provides clinical supervision to nursing staff assuring the highest levels of performance in patient care delivery.
Collaborates with the department of education and training to plan for orientation of new personnel and unit specific education/in-service as documented.
Monitors the mandatory educational activities of personnel on the unit to ensure individual and unit compliance.
Ensures and arranges for staff to be able to attend and participate in mandatory Educational Programs and Continuing Education activities.
Assumes responsibility for direct patient care based upon acuity levels and patient care needs on the unit.
As agreed to with the director, reports unit compliance with regulatory agencies’ standards (i.e. OSHA, JCAHO, DPH, FDA).
Monitors unit-specific equipment for safe use, as evidenced by up-to-date electrical checks, use of maintenance log and/or removal of unsafe equipment from the unit.
Monitors the staff’s understanding of established emergency, infection control, and universal precautions procedures as evidenced by CQI reports, incident follow-ups, staff meeting minutes, and direct observation by the director or designee.
Maintains current certification / license as required by the job specific.
Plans for, directs, and documents regularly scheduled staff meetings – minimum one per month – as evidenced by staff meeting minutes.

Perform all other tasks assigned.
