Position Title: Director of Academic Advising

Major Responsibilities: Direct, manage and oversee the university’s Academic Advising function. Support the university's mission to promote student academic success by empowering the student to actively participate in the creation and implementation of their academic goals. The Director of Academic Advising (DAA) ensures that the academic advisors deliver high-quality advising services by providing accurate and timely academic resources, materials, and information to all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communication Management: Respond promptly to daily communications via email and voicemail, addressing inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Policy Adherence and Ethical Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to the University's mission, policies, procedures, ethical standards, compliance with data protection regulations and pertinent legal regulations in all aspects of admission activities.
- University Engagement: Participate in Commencement Exercises, new student orientation, university events, committees, self-studies, and University Commencement Ceremonies.
- Special Projects: Execute special projects assigned by the President or supervisor.
- Compliance Adherence: Ensure compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, as well as FNU Policies, Procedures, Rules, and Regulation, the FNU Code of Ethics, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (FIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
- Assigned Duties: Undertake other assigned duties as required.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides oversight of the academic advisors, university wide.
2. Participate in the hiring process for the Academic Advisors, in consultation with Human Resources, the VP of Academics and the Campus Dean.
3. Ensures that Academic Advisors inform the students about University’s policies and procedures, curricular options, and academic program requirements.
4. Ensures that Academic Advisors inform students on course/program selection, including entrance requirements.
5. Ensures that Academic Advisors assist students during the self-scheduling process and review any curriculum or class substitution pertaining to their programs.
6. Ensures that Academic Advisors support students with their academic performance and areas of strength to ensure they are consistent with their plans.
7. Works closely with academic advisors to ensure that a proactive and high-quality approach is taken with all students.
8. Represents academic advising in inter-departmental activities and participate in institutional policy development and implementation.
9. Provides close supervision to all academic advisors, ensuring professional development and required training.
10. Participates in university-wide retention initiatives.
11. Leads the assessment and continuous quality improvement processes for the Academic Advising Center at the university level.
12. Prepares and monitors progress on the Academic Advising Center’s Planning, Assessment, and Implementation Form.
13. Participates in New Student Orientation.
14. Completes Annual Performance reviews for assigned direct reports.
Requirements:
· Minimum requirement: Master of Science in Psychology, Counseling, Education, or Educational Leadership, doctoral degree preferred.
· 5 years of experience of academic advising in higher education and 3 years of supervisory experience.
· Excellent communication skills, proven record of customer service, and the ability to lead and foster a collaborative work environment.
· Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and oral communication, preferred.
· Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, and to develop a schedule where they routinely visit all campuses.
