Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Open Heart Surgical Team. In this critical role, you will provide direct patient care in collaboration with cardiovascular surgeons. You will be responsible for conducting history/physical exams, interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing comprehensive care plans. As part of your duties, you will perform first assisting in surgeries, manage patients in the pre, intra, and postoperative settings, and contribute to patient care continuity through bedside procedures, rounding, consultations, and wound care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surgical Assistance: First assist in cardiovascular surgeries, including endoscopic vein harvesting, under the supervision of the surgical team.
  • Patient Care: Conduct comprehensive history and physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop care plans in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative settings.
  • Inpatient Care: Perform rounding, consultations, wound care, and bedside procedures for hospitalized patients.
  • Outpatient Care: Manage clinic visits, provide patient and family education, and facilitate the continuation of care in outpatient settings.
  • On-Call Coverage: Provide on-call coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with a focus on high-level decision-making.
  • Collaboration: Work directly with the surgical team, administration, and support staff to ensure excellent patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree required in Physician Assistant studies.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), with prior experience in cardiovascular surgery and endoscopic vein harvesting.
  • Certifications:
  • National Certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • DEA License, BLS, and ACLS required.
  • State licensure in compliance with Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and licensure renewal requirements.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Expertise in performing surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with strong decision-making skills.
