Food & Beverage Captain

Summary: Supervises and coordinates the activities of the dining room service staff in a high volume, fast-paced environment, while ensuring that the members and guests have an exceptional dining experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Schedules dining reservations and coordinates special dinner parties &/or services for members and guests.
  • Supervises the dining room staff and supports them throughout service.
  • Trains dining room staff according to Club standards, including steps of service, menu items, use of the POS (JONAS) system, etc.
  • Assists with setting floor plans and table assignments.
  • Greets members and guests and assists with seating.
  • Assigns work tasks and coordinates activities of dining room staff to ensure prompt and courteous service to members and guests.
  • Anticipates members and guests’ needs, while ensuring that service exceeds expectations.
  • Checks tables throughout service for member satisfaction.
  • Resolves member/guest complaints in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates food service between kitchen and service staff.
  • Assists with service of food by preparing beverages, expediting food orders and clearing/resetting tables as needed.
  • Inspects dining room serving stations for cleanliness and organization.
  • Requisitions table linens and other dining room supplies for tables and serving stations.
  • Conducts daily line-up with dining room staff.
  • Performs opening and closing duties in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all safety, accident and emergency protocols are in place and consistently followed.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Club policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises up to 25 service staff members in the Dining Room. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the Club.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of guest reservation systems, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and POS system (preferably JONAS).
