This Smart Instructor position is responsible for leading and managing the programs under the Department of Education (“DOE”) and Department of Juvenile Justice (“DJJ”) grants. Plan and conduct a well-rounded program in youth development by implementing programs in the areas of Character & Leadership Development, Education (Homework Help) & Career Development, Health & Life Skills.
SMART (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training)
Key Roles (Essential Responsibilities):
- Plan and conduct programs with written weekly plans
- Mentoring the Club members
- Report statistical information for DOE and/or DJJ grants
- Assist Club members with the use of all equipment and software including an orientation program.
- Promote and stimulate interest in the assigned programs
- Requisition needed supplies
- Control use of materials and supplies
- Ensure Club members complete programs including but not limited to pre- and post-test
- Maintain Club member’s attendance during the programs.
- Plan and follow through on recognition program for youth completing specific programs
- Establish and enforce appropriate disciplinary rules in the Club
- Recruit Club member for programs as appropriate
- Implement all club policies, especially the Acceptable Use policy (computer policy)
- Keep the Club clean and the equipment in good working order
- Promptly report all equipment repair needs
- Assist other staff members in integrating programs into other areas
- Communicate with management and Club staff, about Club programs and needs
- Participate in staff meetings
- Perform other duties that may be assigned to meet the needs of the Boys & Girls Club
Relationships:
- Internal: Maintain contact with Club program staff and Director
- External: Maintain contact with members and parents as needed; provide advice and/or discipline
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- AA Degree or equivalent education and experience
- Ability to use technology as a means of instruction and to communicate the programs to Club members
- Strong computer skills
- Experience working with youth
- Experience in teaching or education field preferred
- CPR certified
