Position Overview
Tank America is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic with leadership and management capabilities to join our team. This position is ideal for a hands-on mechanic who can not only maintain and repair our unique fleet of vehicles but also take ownership of shop operations, parts inventory, and team coordination.
The role requires a proactive problem solver who can handle complex troubleshooting, ensure efficient workflow in the shop, and support the success of both our vehicles and our crew. New hires will receive one-on-one training on our specialized vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
• Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on Cummins 6BT diesel engines and related systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot engine malfunctions and mechanical/electrical issues.
• Conduct test drives and inspections to confirm repairs and overall functionality.
• Install accessories and modifications as required.
• Carry out P.M.C.S. (Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services) on all fleet vehicles.
Shop & Team Management
• Oversee day-to-day shop operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and cleanliness.
• Provide guidance, direction, and support to shop employees, fostering a productive and positive work environment.
• Schedule and assign tasks to maximize shop efficiency and minimize downtime.
Parts & Inventory
• Maintain accurate inventory of parts, supplies, and tools.
• Order and track parts to ensure timely availability for ongoing and upcoming repairs.
• Work with vendors and suppliers to source quality parts at competitive prices.
Problem Solving & Troubleshooting
• Tackle critical and unexpected issues with quick, sound decision-making.
• Lead recovery efforts for broken or damaged vehicles in the field.
• Use creativity and resourcefulness to resolve mechanical challenges on specialized equipment.
Other Duties
• Operate heavy equipment when required.
• Assist with recovery operations for damaged vehicles.
• Perform other responsibilities assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications
• 2+ years of diesel engine maintenance experience and/or diesel/automotive technician training.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to operate Apple and Google tablets for work orders and tracking.
• Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with inventory management and parts ordering preferred.
• Supervisory or lead mechanic experience a plus.
• Must be 18+ years old.
• Veterans strongly encouraged to apply (veteran preference).
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on mechanical work.
• Comfortable working in non-AC shop and outdoor environments in Florida weather.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and work overhead.
Schedule
• 8-hour shifts with flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
