Onsite Technical Lead – Business & Residential
About Geekmatics Based in Palm Harbor, Geekmatics is the region’s premier "Apple Store Alternative" and high-end electronics repair lab. While our shop handles the precision microsoldering and hardware surgery, our Onsite Division brings that same level of expertise directly to our clients’ front doors. We are the "special forces" of local tech—fixing the complex network, server, and workstation issues that big-box retailers and basic "geeks" aren't qualified to touch.
The Role: Field Expert (Not an Entry-Level Position) Are you a tech expert who prefers the field over a workbench? Geekmatics is seeking a Senior Onsite Technician to be the face of our company. This is a high-autonomy role for a seasoned pro who can walk into a local business, assess a dead server or a messy network, and solve the problem without a manual or a supervisor.
You will travel to residential and business clients to solve technical headaches on the spot. This role requires a unique blend of "MacGyver" technical skills and "Five-Star" hospitality.
Primary Responsibilities
- Field Support: Drive to client locations to troubleshoot and repair computers, peripherals, and mobile devices.
- Network Setup: Install and configure Wi-Fi routers, mesh systems, and basic wired networking for homes and small businesses.
- On-the-Fly Solutions: Diagnose software issues, printer connectivity problems, and hardware failures in various environments.
- Consultative Service: Advise clients on upgrades, security best practices, and new hardware purchases while on-site.
What You Need to Bring
- Autonomy: This is not a training role. You must be a master troubleshooter capable of working with zero supervision.
- Experience: Significant previous experience as a field-tech is mandatory.
- Professionalism: Position requires a neat and professional presentation. You are representing a high-end brand in people’s homes and offices.
- Reliability: Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and a reliable vehicle are required.
- Local Focus: Must be a resident of the Palm Harbor/Pinellas/South Pasco/West Hillsborough County area to ensure timely response to local clients.
- Position requires a neat and professional presentation.
- Be a local resident as most work will be in Palm Harbor spilling over to the rest of mid and northern Pinellas, South Pasco, and west Hillsborough.
Technical Skills Required
- Full proficiency in Windows and macOS.
- Deep understanding of home networking (SSID configuration, port forwarding, signal optimization).
- Ability to perform basic hardware swaps (Hard drives, RAM, Power Supplies) on-site.
- Familiarity with mobile device integration and cloud syncing (iCloud, Google Workspace).
