Job DescriptionPosition Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Respiratory Care, this position is responsiblefor administration of respiratory therapy procedures to include Medicated Nebulizers, oxygen therapy, Chest physiotherapy, Metered dose inhalers, positive pressure therapy, arterial blood gas drawing and analysis with interpretation, volume ventilation and airway maintenance. Also assists in Code Blue and Rapid Assessment Team when appropriate. With the exception of the ER and critical care settings, performs therapy on a one to one basis in order to maintain high standards of care. Also ensures adequate staffing shift to shift, and oversees/enforces quality patient care within the department.Responsible to supervise their assigned shift. Develops the work schedules, assesses workloads and ensures adequate staffing levels. Actively works on developing staff improve patient care and professional skills. Makes customer service an important aspect of their supervision by resolving patient, physician, and intra-department concerns.
Physical and Mental Demands:
Some physical effort is required when moving equipment or positioning patients. Pushes Ventilators. Bending, stooping, lifting, and walking 80% of the time. Up to 15 lbs of lifting is routinely required.Pushes E and H cylinders. May transport patients via bed/stretcher or wheelchair.Equipment Used:All Respiratory Care equipment demonstrated via competency as well as all other equipment necessary to perform the job Working Conditions:Pleasant, works in a clean, well lighted, heated and air conditioning environment.May come in in contact with unpleasant sights, smells, and/or odors. Hazards:Must be oriented and familiar with mandated Universal Precautionsand OSHA regulations. Work with potentially hazardous gases which are under great pressure.May come in contact with various diseases and isolation patients. Supervisory control (if applicable):Position is supervised by the shift supervisor, department manager & department director. Required Education/Licensing:Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care and current Florida State licensure. Must posses a BLS CPR , ACLS, NRP and PALS certification Required Work Related Experience:Two years working experience in critical care areas such as ICU/CCU and 2 years directexperience in a respiratory specialty is preferred. A respiratory specialty may include specialty areas such bronchoscopies, PFT's, and any related supervisory responsibilities. Two additional years of critical care experience may be substituted in lieu of a respiratory specialty. Must be conversant with all modern technical equipment found in the Respiratory Care Department.Incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.
