Job Title: Executive Director of Engineering

Reports To: General Manager Emerald Grande

Summary: The Executive Director of Engineering is a strategic, forward-thinking leader responsible for safeguarding the physical integrity, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability of the resort’s assets. This executive oversees all engineering, maintenance, capital projects, safety programs, and environmental sustainability initiatives across the campus. With a focus on guest experience, regulatory compliance, and financial stewardship, the Executive Director ensures our resort facilities operate flawlessly, safely, and efficiently, supporting both daily operations and long-term growth.

**Pay commensurate with experience

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the maintenance and engineering activities for Emerald Grande resort, Sunset Suites, Harbor Suites, HarborWalk Village, Marina and Properties.
  2. Responsible for the safety and security of all resources used in support of maintenance and engineering activities.
  3. Serve as an advisor to the senior leadership team on all matters related to property infrastructure, building systems, utilities, and renovations
  4. Assess corrective actions for work orders, determine follow-up maintenance requirements, assign assets and materials as needed to complete open work orders, and close completed work orders.
  5. Develop and nurture strong working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership, department heads, and individual contributors.
  6. Oversee all maintenance projects to include timelines, expenses, and labor for the above listed properties.
  7. Responsible for the inventory of materials and supplies needed in the execution of work orders, facility maintenance, and engineering activities.
  8. Develops and maintains departmental policies, guidelines, and standards applicable to the entire campus.
  9. Providing technical hands-on leadership directly managing efforts when necessary
  10. Manage and oversee safety and training programs for the maintenance staff.
  11. Prepare and manage the annual budget for the maintenance department.
  12. Approve all maintenance project expenses and invoices.
  13. Developing key metrics and KPIs to build efficiency improvements into the roadmap
  14. In partnership with the Maintenance Director and Superintendent, responsible for the recruiting, hiring, and training of maintenance employees.
  15. Responsible for the career development of the maintenance/engineering staff.
  16. Conducts annual personnel assessments and provides feedback on job performance.
  17. Primary liaison to commercial contractors for all construction projects on the property, communicating regularly to collecting bids, and ensuring project completion.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

5-7 years’ management experience in maintenance and groundskeeping required, preferably in a resort setting.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements

Must have a working knowledge of maintenance and engineering practices and procedures as they pertain to the hospitality industry.

  • Good understanding of business management processes, procedures and finance.
  • Solid knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant workplace safety practices
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, industry standards, contract language applicable to the industry and applicable statutes of the State of Florida is beneficial
  • Must possess extensive personnel and resource management expertise.
  • Must possess the ability to evaluate and correct a myriad of maintenance issues to include electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, elevators, lighting, furniture, and hardware repairs.
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact with guests and coworkers in a harmonious manner. Customer service must be a priority.
  • Ability to handle multiple operational demands with a high degree of professionalism, operating often with time sensitive deadlines
  • Competent in the use of computers and a willingness to work in the work order system daily.
  • Strong decision-making skills

Language Skills

Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, coworkers, and members of the executive team.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Qualifications

Availability Open and operational seven days a week. Employees are required to be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

License/Certification Requirements Valid driver’s license that has been in effect for at least three years, with no major violations and no more than two minor violations in the past three years. Certification to operate heavy equipment preferred.
