POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, and immunology to provide critical information for patient diagnosis and treatment. This role involves receiving, testing, and accurately recording all samples while ensuring the quality and reliability of laboratory results. The technician maintains compliance with laboratory protocols and regulatory standards, reporting overall laboratory operations and administration to the Technical Consultant and/or Laboratory Director.


CORE ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure accurate handling, labeling, logging, and preparation of specimens to maintain integrity and support diagnostic accuracy.
  • Perform essential laboratory tests (chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, immunology) to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Maintain logs, run controls, and ensure all lab activities comply with CLIA/COLA and other regulatory standards.
  • Confirm lab orders, release results accurately, and communicate critical or abnormal findings to appropriate personnel.
  • Follow all lab safety protocols, maintain a secure environment, and uphold patient confidentiality and legal standards.
  • Perform other administrative and laboratory-related duties as assigned to support clinic operations, including assisting with inventory management, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols.

Requirements:

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors of Science degree required.
  • Minimum of one year of medical clinical laboratory experience required.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION

  • MLS, MLT, MLA/MT certification through ASCP or MLS, MLT certification through AMT preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES

  • Proficient in clinical laboratory procedures, including specimen collection, analysis, quality control, equipment operation, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA).
  • Strong foundational knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, data entry, and infection prevention, with the ability to accurately interpret and report laboratory results using LIS and EMR systems.
