Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Melbourne, FL
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Director of Operations


Position Overview:


Custom Industrial Products (CIP), a leading manufacturer of vertical material lifts and custom material handling equipment, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on SolidWorks experience, a strong understanding of mechanical systems, and the ability to collaborate across departments to develop and refine products from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Design and model mechanical components and assemblies for vertical lifts and related equipment
  • Drive the design process including specifications, feasibility studies, cost estimates, timelines, and detailed design
  • Create 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks and CAD tools
  • Work with medium-sized assemblies (300500 components) with strong configuration management
  • Ensure components and assemblies comply with internal and external standards (e.g., ASME Y14)
  • Develop complete production drawing packages and BOMs for handoff to manufacturing
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing to ensure on-time project completion
  • Identify and resolve design and production issues throughout the product lifecycle
  • Design parts with manufacturing efficiency in mind, including weldments and sheet metal parts

Qualifications & Requirements:


  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years of experience as a mechanical or design engineer, preferably in metal fabrication or capital equipment manufacturing
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (required), including configurations, weldments, and sheet metal tools
  • Understanding of welding practices and welding symbol usage
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication processes and equipment (laser cutting, plasma, press brakes)
  • Familiarity with control systems (PLCs, VFDs) is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and comfortable using ERP systems
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a collaborative mindset
