Structural Restoration Engineer Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Structural Engineer with a strong background in the assessment, analysis, and repair of existing buildings and structures. In this role, you will serve as a technical lead in diagnosing structural deficiencies, developing repair and retrofit strategies, and guiding clients through the entire lifecycle of a building restoration project. You’ll collaborate closely with architects, owners, and contractors, translating field observations into meaningful engineering decisions. From field assessments and technical reporting to repair detailing and construction inspections and general oversight, you will be involved in every critical phase of the project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct structural assessments, forensic investigations, and condition evaluations of existing buildings, parking structures, and infrastructure.
- Must possess and maintain knowledge of building code, state laws, and local municipal requirements for the evaluation, permitting, and inspection of required repairs.
- Develop repair and rehabilitation strategies for buildings experiencing structural deterioration due to aging, construction deficiencies, overloading, or environmental damage.
- Manage the successful production and execution of deliverable work products to the client, including but not limited to preparing technical reports, drawings, and specifications for structural repairs, retrofits, and restoration projects.
- Collaborate with architects, building owners, property managers, and contractors throughout the design and construction phases.
- Perform site visits for evaluations, construction administration, and quality assurance.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Working knowledge of building envelope systems, applications, installation, and performance expectations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- PE license (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe).
- 2+ years of experience with a focus on existing structures, building envelope, and repair design.
- Familiarity with concrete, masonry, steel, and wood structural systems.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Experience with structural analysis software
- Knowledge of local building codes and repair standards (e.g., IBC, ACI, AISC, etc.).
Work Quality
- Production of logical and accurate results backed by organized and clearly presented structural calculations that are easy for supervisors to understand
- Follows JG’s design, BIM modeling, and drawing presentation standards, where applicable
- Use of proper grammar within written and verbal communication
- Production of neat, accurate, and graphically pleasing documentation including reports
- Schedules timely in-house task/project quality reviews of his/her work and follows through on review comments

- Sets goals throughout the day for the completion of individual tasks.
- Seeks collaboration with the supervisor in the determination of allotted time per task and produces work in the allotted time period.

- Logs time accurately on a daily basis per Project Manager’s contractual agreements.
- Voluntarily seeks job knowledge outside of office hours including the reading of textbooks, learning manuals, software manuals, and industry trade publications.
