We have an immediate opening for an Embryology Research Scientist to join our team in Margate, Florida. The schedule is Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with weekends and holidays as needed.

This position is responsible for collaborating with the research team to keep the practice at the cutting edge of current technology and on the forefront in developing new technology. The Embryology Research Scientist is responsible for carrying out scientific research (40%) within the IVF laboratory under the direction of the Laboratory Management Team. In addition, this position is responsible for collaborating with the Scientific Director (45%) and the Research Coordinator (10%) in compliance with procedural processes associated with clinical and scientific research trials. The position may require occasional coverage in the clinical embryology laboratory (5%).

How You'll Contribute:

We always do whatever it takes, even if it isn't specifically our "job." In general, the Embryology Research Scientist is responsible for:

  • Designs, plans and Implements projects that have the possibility of improving patient outcomes
  • Demonstrates proficiency in laboratory services and procedures: Identification, assessment and culture of oocytes; Sperm preparation and insemination of oocytes; Embryo culture; Assessment and selection of embryos for transfer; Embryo freezing, storage, and thawing; Media preparation; Instrumentation involved in research; Recording and reporting laboratory results; Semen analysis
  • Undertakes research and/or coordinates research in human embryo biology as agreed upon by the Scientific and Laboratory Director, and Physician Chair of the Research Committee
  • Lead and confirm all projects are monitored and completed in the desired time frames and that the outcomes of such projects are effectively communicated, as appropriate
  • Lead and confirm projects remain productive and achieve desired, agreed upon milestones
  • Lead all data analysis and writing of research articles for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals on the clinical research and development at the Company/practice
  • Lead and presents oral and poster presentations of laboratory research results for scientific meetings
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of applications for Institutional Review Board approval of study protocols and patient consent forms for prospective studies
  • Fully complies with US Fertility quality management policies and OH&S policies and guidelines
  • Must develop competency in more complex reproductive technologies as required by research studies/projects
  • Execute laboratory policies, practices and procedures to ensure that laboratory accreditation is maintained in good standing under OSHA and CLIA, and that laboratory practices conform to all other applicable Federal, State and local regulatory laws and guidelines
  • Ensure that the laboratory is operated in such a manner that it is in continuous readiness for inspection and review by the appropriate regulatory agencies and the Corporate Standards Review
  • Assist the Laboratory Director/Supervisor with laboratory quality assurance and quality control programs to ensure they satisfy Company requirements and meet industry standards as established by qualified outside agencies
  • Identify and anticipate safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions; rendering opinions on new equipment and procedures; recommending preventative programs as needed
  • Participates as required in appropriate proficiency testing programs to monitor laboratory practice outcomes, and to measure on a regular basis that such outcomes meet or exceed industry and practice standards
  • Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Maintain supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies
  • Interface with clinical embryologists to integrate research projects into the laboratory
  • Work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team to provide good patient care and achieve the objectives and goals of the practice
  • Work weekends and holidays as scheduled, inclusive of on-call responsibilities
  • Attend Company/Practice and department meetings as required
  • Works with physicians, laboratory personnel, nurses and other team members contributing to research projects
  • Contributes to research projects in relevant project development, data collection, literature review, presentation preparation, manuscript writing, and related research activities
  • Participates in monthly journal club and clinical meetings; communicates issues where appropriate
  • Cooperates, interfaces and works independently to assure the program goals are achieved

What You'll Bring:

The skills and education we need are:

  • Graduate Degree (MSc), preferably in Reproductive Biology or other relevant field required
  • Minimum of 2 years research experience in Reproductive Biology, Infertility or related field
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of embryologist experience
  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
  • Proficiency with computing software including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and statistical analysis software
  • Knowledge of office procedures and office machines (i.e. computer, fax, copier, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate good judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Proficiency in medical/scientific writing
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and follow-through on projects
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
