Fire Alarm Technician

About the role
We’re looking for a skilled Fire Alarm Technician to support the installation, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation of fire alarm and life safety systems across commercial and/or residential sites. This role is hands-on, customer-facing, and safety-critical—ideal for someone who takes pride in doing precise work, following code requirements, and helping keep buildings compliant and people protected.
What you’ll do

Install, service, and maintain fire alarm systems and related life safety equipment (e.g., initiating devices, notification appliances, power supplies, panels, annunciators).

Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance (ITM) in accordance with NFPA standards, local codes, and manufacturer specifications.

Troubleshoot system faults and wiring issues; diagnose and repair panels, circuits, devices, and communication/networking components.

Program, configure, and verify system operation (including device mapping and panel programming where applicable).

Coordinate with customers, general contractors, AHJs, and internal teams to schedule work and resolve issues.

Complete work orders, testing reports, as-builts, and compliance documentation accurately and on time.

Support system acceptance testing and commissioning; respond to deficiencies and punch-list items.

Maintain tools, test equipment, and service vehicle inventory; follow safety procedures and company policies.

Participate in on-call rotation (if required) for emergency service calls.
What we’re looking for

High school diploma/GED (technical training or apprenticeship a plus).

Experience installing and/or servicing fire alarm systems (or equivalent low-voltage experience).

Strong understanding of fire alarm fundamentals, wiring methods, and troubleshooting best practices.

Familiarity with applicable codes/standards (e.g., NFPA 72, NEC, local fire codes).

Ability to read blueprints, riser diagrams, and system documentation.

Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in active job sites; able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Professional communication skills and a customer-first attitude.
Preferred qualifications (nice to have)

Fire alarm certifications/licenses such as NICET (Level I–IV), state fire alarm license, or equivalent.

Experience with one or more major systems (e.g., Notifier, Simplex, Edwards/EST, Siemens, Bosch, Fire-Lite).

Experience with integrated systems (e.g., access control, sprinkler monitoring, elevator recall, HVAC shutdown, mass notification).

Knowledge of IP/network-based fire alarm communications and/or fiber/structured cabling.

OSHA 10/30, lift certification, or other safety training.
