Job Description:

The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a critical role in supporting our customers and sales team through designing, developing, building, and testing mechanical systems and components. While the primary focus is on design framing and guarding solutions featuring aluminum extrusion and our manufacturing partner 80/20 Inc., designs will also incorporate products from other product lines to include enclosures, pneumatics, robot pedestals, pendant arms, and other machined components. Furthermore, this position will support our Integration Division to conceptualize, design and test custom fabricated parts for robot/cobot cells and other automated systems and machines. It is required that the Mechanical Design Engineer has a thorough understanding of mechanical and structural design principles, physics, and 2D/3D design and model software. Additionally, this is a customer-facing role, and

Responsibilities:

· Utilizing AutoCAD and SolidWorks to generate designs and models for a variety of applications

· Interface with customers to gather design/application requirements and specifications

· Develop pricing and quotes to present to the customer, which may require a follow up call/meeting to walkthrough the intricacies of the design

· Develop a deep understanding of the use and application of the product offering from 80/20 Inc., along with the associated vendor partners that we utilize for accessories to round out a frame, system, or design

· Effectively collaborate with other sales engineers, controls engineers, manufacturing personnel, and project managers throughout the life cycle of a project for our Integration Division

· Build and test prototypes to evaluate the functionality, performance, use, and safety of designs

· Prepare assembly instructions or other project related documentation for in-house builds or for customers

· Review customer supplied specifications or requirements documents to determine if a suitable to take on

Preferred Qualifications:

· Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or 5-years of equivalent experience required

· Previous experience in industrial automation, mechanical design, manufacturing, or other related fields

· Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or like 2D and 3D design and modeling software

· Experience working with 80/20 or similar t-slot aluminum extrusion, preferred

· Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to mechanical challenges and innovate and create where there may not be an existing, out-of-the-box solution

· Deadline and detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines at once
