POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s visual status by maintaining an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient quality eye care. The ophthalmic technician can effectively perform appropriate clinical testing by previous form education and or clinical experience which allows an understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• History taking
• Visual acuity measurement
• Refractometry (measurements for the glasses prescription)
• Tonometry (measure eye pressure)
• Measure pupil size and reactivity
• Test and measure eye muscle function
• Visual field testing
• Corneal thickness measurement
• Corneal curvature measurement
• Corneal topography
• Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement
• Retinal thickness and topography
• Fluorescein angiography
• A and B-scan ultrasonography
• Assist with contact lens fitting, and patient instruction
• Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures
• Assisting with minor in-office procedures
• Triage patient calls
• Prescription refills
• Referring letters
