Grid Integration and Interconnection Planning Engineer
Job Description
Job Description Be the expert who keeps clean energy flowing
Picture your first week: you step into a senior-level role embedded with our client through WECTEC Staffing Services (a Westinghouse company), partnering with an onsite manager while you plan and analyze how new wind, solar, and battery energy storage resources tie into the grid. You guide project teams through interconnection studies, decode ISO and utility requirements, and build the models that inform smart, resilient transmission decisions. It’s a 1-year, W-2 contract where your technical judgment shapes renewable and transmission projects within the Engineering & Construction organization.
What you’ll do in this role
- Lead generation interconnection planning and operational readiness for new renewable and transmission/substation projects.
- Coordinate closely with ISOs, utilities, municipal entities, and regulatory bodies to navigate interconnection processes and requirements across U.S. regions.
- Create, validate, and maintain PSSE, GE PSLF, and PSCAD models for solar, wind, and BESS facilities.
- Execute steady-state, dynamic, short-circuit, and related power system studies for renewable integration.
- Track evolving interconnection standards and advise stakeholders on implications to project design and schedule.
- Assess compliance with emerging IBR standards (e.g., IEEE 2800, grid-forming IBR) and ensure alignment with regional modeling rules.
- Develop software tools that increase system reliability and improve team productivity.
- Advance industry practice by introducing designs/techniques recognized as significant contributions.
- Drive implementation of engineering standards, policies, training, and ongoing support.
- Prepare clear communications and presentations; facilitate effective technical meetings.
What sets you up for success
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).
- Deep understanding of interconnection procedures used by ISOs, utilities, and transmission owners nationwide.
- Hands-on experience with power system tools: PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, TSAT, and GE PSLF.
- Strong command of power flow, stability, voltage regulation, and reactive power support concepts.
