Job Overview

The Reactions Chemist will be responsible for executing and developing organic synthesis reactions, primarily related to cannabinoids, intermediates, and derivatives. This role requires the independent setup, monitoring, and workup of chemical reactions, as well as optimizing reaction conditions to improve yield, purity, and reproducibility, with an ability to scale reactions from gram to kilogram-scale. A key part of the role is troubleshooting failed or underperforming reactions, applying mechanistic understanding to resolve inefficiencies, and performing analytical validation using techniques such as HPLC, GC, and NMR. The chemist must maintain detailed documentation (lab notebooks, batch records, and technical reports) and ensure strict compliance with all laboratory safety protocols, GMP, and SOPs.

Required Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field

● 3+ years of hands-on experience running organic reactions (industrial or R&D lab

preferred)

● Strong experience in troubleshooting and optimizing chemical reactions

● Practical experience with air- and moisture-sensitive chemistry preferred

● Familiarity with cannabinoid chemistry is strongly preferred

Key Responsibilities

● Perform organic synthesis reactions related to cannabinoids, intermediates, and

derivatives

● Independently set up, monitor, quench, and work up chemical reactions

● Optimize reaction conditions (solvents, catalysts, temperature, stoichiometry,

time) to improve yield, purity, and reproducibility

● Scale reactions from gram-scale to kilogram-scale when required

● Diagnose failed or underperforming reactions and identify root causes

● Develop and test alternative reaction pathways or conditions

● Troubleshoot issues related to impurities, side reactions, low conversion, or poor

selectivity

● Apply mechanistic understanding to resolve reaction inefficiencies

● Analyze reaction progress and products using techniques such as HPLC, GC,

NMR, TLC, and LC-MS

● Maintain accurate and detailed lab notebooks and batch records

● Prepare technical reports and summaries of experimental findings

● Follow all laboratory safety, chemical handling, and waste disposal protocols

● Work in compliance with GMP, SOPs, and regulatory requirements (where

applicable)

● Collaborate with R&D, analytical, and production teams to support process

transfer and scale-up

● Assist in training junior chemists or technicians as needed

If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you!
