Summary/Objective

  • · To foster research in all divisions of the Watson Clinic.
  • · To improve the care of Watson Clinic patients from all the various clinical departments directly applying information obtained from ongoing research and by developing new knowledge through the research process.
  • · To provide the administrative structure upon which a Watson Clinic researcher can perform human research.
  • · To foster an atmosphere of enthusiasm, inquisitiveness and intellectual stimulation through the research process.
  • · To enhance the reputation of Watson Clinic and its partners locally, nationally and internationally.
  • · To provide a basis of continued education for medical specialists to develop skills in research and provide an avenue to begin research for interested Watson Clinic physicians.

Essential Functions

  • · Manages the operating functions of the Center for Research. Manages administration of external grants and contracts.
  • · Over sees the Good clinical processes and FDA regulatory guidelines for all ongoing research.
  • · Manages all database entry for all ongoing research. Making certain all documentation is captured accurately and correctly adhering to research protocol guidelines.
  • · Assists with study finances and budgeting. Determine protocol budgets and funding sources to carry out the research study activities.
  • · Oversee all research activity, ongoing and proposed at the Watson Clinic.
  • · Review all research proposals for content, scientific worth and safety.
  • · Evaluate the Watson Clinic liability and resources needed to maintain good research clinical practice
  • · Assess patients, using nursing processes as required for research studies. Coordinates patient care by following the protocol schedule using the nursing process. Determine appropriate patient care and intervention requirements. Schedules and performs patient “instruction” visits and offers emotional support. Assists with medical procedures at clinic or in the hospital for the particular study protocol. Administers medication, including injections and IV’s; documents medication given or prescribed by ordering physician as required by study specialty.
  • · Collaborates research studies with drug company representatives and physicians.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills to build and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, families, co-workers and physicians.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service practices by greeting customers/patients in a friendly and courteous manner and offering assistance when needed. Is responsive to customer/patient needs, demonstrating a sensitivity to individual special needs and cultural diversity. Highly supportive of other staff in accomplishing whatever needs to be done to serve the customer/patient.
  • Maintains good attendance record and is generally punctual and reliable. Arrives on time to meetings and is prepared as required. Demonstrates strong work ethic by being available when needed and willing to do whatever needs to be done.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards work. Continually gains expertise on the job and is receptive to new work assignments. Puts forth an effort to acquire new or broader job knowledge, either through on-the-job opportunities to learn or available training.
  • Adapts to new situations and changing work responsibilities. Is open to suggestions and criticism and is able to utilize input from others. Looks for acceptable solutions in conflict situations.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice. Upholds all aspects of Clinic Standards of Conduct. Holds self to the highest standard of individual ethical and legal business practices and takes appropriate steps to identify, report and prevent illegal or unethical activity in the workplace.

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervise all the research personnel.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Monday-Friday 8:30am – 5pm.
  • Position requires attendance at early morning (7:00am or 7:30am) some days of the week
  • Position requires occasional evening and/or weekend availability

Travel

  • Travel to study-related meetings may be required.

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in Cardiology or Oncology preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Active Florida RN license.
  • Active Clinical Research Coordinator Licensure (CCRC).
  • CPR certification to be completed within three months of employment. Maintain CPR certification in current status.
  • Credentialed at the hospital before assisting surgeries or interacting with patients at all Hospital facilities.
  • Self-directed, independent thinker, and autonomous.
