We are looking for a skilled Property Accountant to manage the financial operations of a diverse portfolio of properties. This role involves overseeing daily accounting tasks, preparing financial reports, and ensuring efficient cash management. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with property managers and asset management teams to deliver insightful financial analyses and support the overall performance of each asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain general ledgers for assigned residential properties.
- Record and reconcile all income, expenses, and other financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Review and reconcile bank accounts, security deposits, and escrow accounts.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring accuracy and proper coding.
- Calculate and record accruals, depreciation, and amortization as needed.
- Track and reconcile tenant ledgers, rent payments, and other receivables.
- Prepare and submit CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and budgets.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for each property.
- Coordinate with property managers regarding invoices, tenant billing, and financial performance.
- Support audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements.
- Recommend process improvements and maintain proper internal controls.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in property management or real estate accounting.
• Proficiency in property management and accounting software such as Yardi
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
• Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging directly with property owners and stakeholders.
• Experience with month-end close processes, accrual accounting, and preparing financial statements.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for company-related events or offsite meetings.
