Job Description

The Learning & Development Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating strategic learning and development programs that enhance employee performance, leadership effectiveness, and organizational culture. This role focuses on organizational development beyond traditional training and development, incorporating leadership growth, talent development, employee engagement, and change management strategies. By coordinating, creating, updating, tracking, and teaching, this role is central to the growth of the TCM Team Members. This role will ultimately lead the Learning & Development Team and coordinate with identified functional trainers within other departments.

As a Lead/Leader at Tri County Metals

    5. Follow the Team Member process by holding timely monthly one-on-ones, quarterly touch-bases and annual assessments with each member of your team in which you collaborate to develop and execute a growth plan to “better their lives and increase their value to TCM.
  1. Participate in the operating rhythm to drive the team’s engagement and development. 
    1. Follow the LMA program for your team.
  1. Lead the Weekly Level 10 Team Meetings.
  2. Develop and execute the on-going training plan during the year, reviewing and updating SOP’s as necessary and recertifying Team Members on policies as required.
  3. Lead the Quarterly Meeting for the Department.
  1. Payroll
    1. Review and approve timecard hours for direct support.
    2. Schedule Team Member shifts and hold accountable for working hours within the schedule.
    3. Approve requested PTO and plan the time off within the department to execute service standards.
    4. Submit compensation changes timely so Team Members may receive their raises at the right time.
  1. Business Fundamentals
    1. Understand and Manage the Budget for your Team and account lines assigned to you.
    2. Seek ways to increase the bottom line without sacrificing customer service, Team Member morale, product quality or safety.

Expectations for your Role

  1. Coordinate the Learning & Development Program for TCM
  1. Execute and Coordinate the Training Plan for each role to ensure role on-boarding and recertifications are completed timely.
  2. Follow the Career path design and development program for identified Team Members to fill future needs.
  3. Perform assessments on training sessions to ensure comprehension and understanding.
  1. Content Creation.
    1. Coordinate, update and develop content for training. Using the established checklist for each role and other development needs, ensure timely and accurate content is ready for use and easily found by Leads/Leaders and Team Members.
    2. Using Adult Learning styles, create content that engages Team Members in various learning styles and uses the time and material effectively and efficiently.
    3. Support Leads with content creation for the development of their Team using various forms of media types. Store these where they can be accessed later and including with development programs as needed.
    4. Work with the change process for SOP’s to create training for the roll-outs and add to existing training plans for new Team Members into impacted roles.
  1. Leadership Development Program
    1. Build on the existing Leadership Development Program and expand to future needs.
    2. Future Leads Program for basic leadership principles and what TCM Expects
    3. Lead in the Middle Program for existing Leads with intermediate Leadership Principles
    4. On-Boarding program for new Leads within the company
    5. Senior Level Program for Advanced Leadership Principles.
  1. Monitor Training Programs
    1. Develop a system to track the training completed for each Team Member.
      1. Completion is determined when the Team Member passes a quiz or test at or above a score of 80%.
    2. Own the on-boarding process per role and ensure that a Team Member has completed all the defined steps prior to full release to the role.
    3. Set-up reminders for recertification training at appropriate intervals.
    4. Prepare a Quarterly Development Calendar with the assigned Team Members who will lead the sessions. (TMT, Future Leads, Compliance Sessions, Group Training)
  1. Success in this role will be determined by the following measurables.
    1. Team Members will complete the required amount of annual training & recertification for their role. {over 90% quarterly}
    2. 100% of Team Members in new roles will be properly safety checked, and machine & role proficiency checked prior to release into their role.
    3. Training Records will be updated timely and accurately.
    4. Post-Training Surveys over 90% satisfaction by Team Members on the courses to ensure the impact of the programs are successful.

Role Requirements

  1. Skills needed.
    1. Experience with Workday (or similar programs) and emerging corporate training techniques (AI-powered learning platforms, microlearning, immersive/interactive learning, blended learning, and continuous learning ecosystems) preferred.
    2. Proven understanding of VARK and how to apply in a learning environment.
  1. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Strong content creation abilities using multimedia tools (like Canva, Adobe Premiere, Powtoon, Synthesia AI, FlexClip) preferred.
  3. Organizational Development & Learning (ODL) Expertise - Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and employee engagement strategies. Experience developing leadership programs, career progression initiatives, and fostering a learning culture.
  4. Understand business fundamentals.
  5. Technical knowledge of roofing and company products.
  6. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  7. Understanding and ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
  8. Experience with using, and scheduling Zoom calls, and presenting / screen sharing. 
  9. Organized workflow, and able to generate reports upon request. 
  10. Professional demeanor and good knowledge of computer software and hardware.  
  11. Must be able to lift 15 pounds unassisted.
  1. Education/Experience.
    1. Bachelor's degree Organizational Development, Human Resources, Learning & Development, Education or a related field preferred.
    2. Certifications in Learning & Development, Instructional Design or Organizational Development preferred.
    3. Minimum 3 years in Organizational Development, Talent Development, or Learning & Development roles with strong facilitation skills for both in-person and virtual audiences.
    4. OSHA 10 certification. {can be obtained after hiring.

      This is a Level III Compensation Range Role and is an Exempt Position. This role is office based, with long periods of sitting, some travel to other locations and the expectation of 45 working hours or more. As a Lead you may be expected to work beyond normal shift hours as needed.
