Job Title: Personal Trainer (Small Groups and 1-on-1)

Company: Galaxy Fit Lab

Hey! I'm John, the owner of Galaxy Fit Lab in North Naples. Galaxy Fit Lab is a 2,000 square foot personal training studio where I host small group and 1-on-1 personal training. The mission of Galaxy Fit Lab is to provide the best personal training experience imaginable. Now I need help doing that.

The Position

I'm seeking a full-time personal trainer to handle all of the small group classes we offer at Galaxy Fit Lab as well as work with clients 1-on-1. Your focus will be solely on delivering the best client experience imaginable. When you're not with clients, I expect you to be studying exercise science, programming, and engaging clients with phone calls and text messages. These people should become like family to you—and you should care for them like you would anyone else in your life that you love.

I'm not looking for you to build your own client base. You will not be burdened by having to build a social media following for yourself or manage the gym's social media. I handle the marketing. You handle your clients.

That being said, you're more than welcome to build your social media presence while you're here. Just understand it is not a requirement of the job, as many other gyms may push this upon you. All I ask is that when we need a short video or some pictures of you training clients, that you're not camera shy.

About You

I'm looking for someone with these qualities, in order of importance:

1. I hope that you have an amazing personality. The job is personal training. And for you to be successful, you must be a super engaging and fun person to be around. You must be kind and caring. And ideally, you're funny and can take a joke. Clients want to work with someone that they like. Your personality will take you further than any other skill you have in this job.

2. I would like you to be a nerd about all things biomechanics, physiology, and nutrition. The more you know about the human body, the more you can help people reach their goals. Without this knowledge, your clients won't make progress, or worse, get hurt.

3. You ideally have some experience. None is OK. But, I need someone who can get up and running quickly, as we have a lot of clients who need our help today. But, either way, expect me to be hands-on with you, in the beginning, getting your training style dialed-in.

Pay

I have no intentions to pay you for this job. What do I look like, a charity?

Just kidding.

Your base salary would be $40,000. This is without any training hours. So, this is what you'll make the first couple of weeks before I have you start working with the groups. You'll get paid commission on the groups based on utilization rate. A good utilization rate should bring you another $10,000 a year or so. Then, you'll make commission on all the personal training you do. If you have a full book of business, we should be able to get you up to $60,000. Hopefully, if you're crazy like me, are willing to train over 40 hours a week, and we can get you the clients, you'll get paid more.

We will talk specifics of the comp package when we sit down for an interview.

Don't expect benefits just yet. But getting you those is absolutely a goal of mine.

Hours/Workload

Expect a 40-hour workweek. Your schedule will be 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday. However, you'll have free time in the middle of the day, as this is when the gym will be slow and there are no scheduled classes. However, you might have to schedule clients during this time depending on their availability.

If you're not training clients, I am expecting you to be studying, programming, and engaging with clients. And if we are being honest, if you're not nose deep in an exercise science textbook or binge-watching YouTube videos on nutrition in your free time, this is probably not the job (or career) for you.

Minimum Qualifications

At a bare minimum, you should have a personal training cert of some kind from a reputable company and your CPR/AED. A degree in Exercise Science is a bonus and we can complain together about how we wasted four years of our lives over a degree that should have been an associates at best. But if you don't have that, I like you, and you're really smart, then you'll be fine.

What I Can Offer You

I know a lot about this industry. I know how to make money in it. I know how to be a really good trainer. And I know a bit about exercise science (although, if you study hard, you'll know more than me soon.)

I hope that I can be a mentor for you, whether you stay at Galaxy Fit Lab, go elsewhere, or start your own thing. I can help you launch a real career in this industry, wherever you'd like to go. And if you want to stay with me, that would be cool. Because I'd like to build something awesome and you'd get to be a part of that.

My goal is to create a fun work culture where we come to the gym (an already sweet workplace), train awesome people, change lives, and get a little smarter every day. I think Galaxy Fit Lab has this already and I'd like you to join me.

How to Apply

I don't really care for resumes, but if you have one, send it to me at john@galaxyfitlab.com. I'd prefer if you emailed me a short essay about you and why I should hire you. And please include the certifications, qualifications, and experience you currently have. Again, it doesn't have to be a resume.

And if you write the email with ChatGPT, I'll smell it immediately (as I use it every day) and I'll delete it without a reply (hopefully that didn't sound mean, I'm really a nice guy.)

Lastly

If this job description got you excited to work for me and be a fantastic personal trainer, then please send me that email. If instead, you thought to yourself "Man, I really need a job right now and this is my last resort," please don't send me that email.
